08' Draft FTW

Post#1 » by DirtyDez » Sat Feb 27, 2010 4:21 am

Excellent scouting and player development by Kerr and Co... Watching Robin and Goran last year proves you can't label a 21 year old a 'bust' his rookie year. EC you're on the clock!

i will judge EC AFTER year 2!
Rolo at the start of the season and half way through did not impress us.
but now as a starter he shows us why we drafted him.

I still would have rather had Speights, Jordan or Mcgee back than and still do today but I'll say this, Robin has surprised me and I would rather have him as of today over alot of the other guys last year.

I'll judge EC after his 2nd year as well. But damn, Rolo was balling today. 30 and 12?! That's Amare numbers.

Yup, scouts did a fantastic job.
Rolo was beasting today! I hope he reaches his ceiling as a Camby/Beans type of player.
Goran Dragic (all I need to say)
EC is still a year away from contributing but I still believe in the kid.

Gives me hope that we might find another 2nd round steal in this year's draft.

Robin >>>>>>> Speights, Jordan and Mcgee right now (even if you took this game away).

I was ANTI Robin Lopez before and after the draft. I was actually all for Dragic. My first few posts here were about him that summer.

plus we have like a buttload of 2nd rounders this year so we have lots of chances of another steal.

Wish I coulda seen the game. Sounds like Lopez was beasting. How in the world did we make out like such bandits in that draft?!? I currently am under the impression that Lopez will have a bigger effect than Beasley

Anyone listen to the Steve Kerr show recently? He dubbed Dragic as a better shooting Kirk Hinrich. If that's all he turns out to be, he'll still be a friekin steal

Speights and Jordan will be good players. Haven't seen anything from McGee. RoLo in his prime could/should dominate the paint.

Chances are we'll think it's a terrible pick though for the 1st year. Although everyone except this one guy has learned not to be critical of our picks for their 1st year

its good to see these guys do well this season. i think goran just needed faith and confidence while lopez needs to bring consistency. Some teams are going to play him now we shall see how he responds. I dnt care about the 30 points but him and amare needs to dominate the paint.

I'm loving our frontcourt. Lopez and Amare compliment each other well. Our backup frontcourt unit also does a good job bringing different attributes to the table.
Goran is looking amazing. His confidence is higher than ever, and it seems thats the key to his success. I can't wait to see Barbosa come back.

Couldn't watch the game due to family commitments but yeah, I'm on the Lopez bandwagon - sitting in the back. I was late getting on board but the kid has proved me wrong.

Does this mean next year Peter Griffin is going to explode off the bench for us?

I thought we only had the one, late in the second if not last?

Yeah I don't think we have as many 2nd rounders as some think. We have Charlotte's 2nd rounder, and then we have to either trade our 2nd rounder or Cleveland's 2nd rounder to Minny(due to the Alando Tucker trade). So either way, we have....2 second round picks.

WOO!

the point is when you are drafting a player nothing is certain. I think this scouting team has shown that once in a while they can find a gem. taylor has some skills too but not enough that translates well into the nba game. Alando was a mystery, he dominated the d-league but he was nothing in the nba. DJ was decent. I hope the suns FO can pull off some first round draft picks this season. EC is interesting because he has some flashes but not quite as glaring as dragic. Im glad lopez is doing well.. keep it up.

Rolo and Dragic both had their moments last season -- so far EC hasn't shown any defensive tenacity, offensive awareness. I know most sports writers have called EC a total epic failure and bust so far, but I'm not ready to call him a bust. He's definitely a HUGE let down, and a total bonehead on the court -- and has zero excuses after 40 games w/ 10mpg, but maybe with some time in the D-League, a full summer league experience, and training camp, he can at least average 4PPG and 4RPG or something. Instead of his 2ppg and 1rpg and .5turnovers.

(I didn't bring up EC in this thread, but comparing EC to Rolo and Dragic is silly. There are no similarities.)
The Phoenix Suns - 54-28. Projected Record: 54-28 3rd Seed

The Phoenix Suns - 2010-2011 Projected Record: 30-52 3rd lottery pick.

EC was on Maggette like melanin on an Indian person during that dubs game(A) I know this comparison doesn't make sense, and B)I'm Indian so it's okay!). I'd call that a "moment" at least.

And as far as "similarities" go...the main idea that we're trying to push is that prematurely judging a rookie who doesn't get consistent playing time would be a mistake. Again, if he's the same player one year from now, then you can say "BWAHA!" and we will sing your praises.

And really...have "most" sportswriters called him a bust? I know Hollinger and Thorpe think he's been less than impressive so far, but "most"?

I'm not saying that he's going to be some star player or anything(I don't like that he plays like a 2 guard in a PF's body), but give him some time man. Lopez looked like a "bonehead" on the court last season too...
