D'Antoni having a rough go in NY...

Never been a huge D'Antoni fan but i do feel bad for the guy... Knicks get blown out again, they have one of the worst records in the NBA wihtout having a 1st Round Pick this year. When he chose New York over Chicago a few years ago he probably thought the Knicks have a realistic chance at getting Lebron/D-Wade/Bosh this summer. After watching that team play there's no way any of the super-stars go there. They'll probably end up overpaying for Joe Johnson or Amare...

We all know he's an overrated coach who ran out when Kerr suggested playing defense and using the bench. His legacy is taking a huge hit and the NY fans/players don't even like they guy. His biggest mistake was not leaving us, but not choosing the Chicago job. They have a stud PG who he could've probably turned into a super-star PG by now plus tons of cap-space.

I guess the point is we're better off without him. We've shown small improvements defensively and developed a great bench. Gentry isn't great but we should've gone right to him instead of Terry Porter. With all that said i hope D'Antoni does well because NYC deserves a great product.

What I don't really understand about D'Antoni is what is up with all the benching for some specific players (Nate, Hughes, Marbury, Curry, etc).

I couldn't see that many games or read as much about the Suns a few years ago so I was not so familiar with him before the final days. Did he use to do these kind of things in phx too?

Because he's the most stubborn man in the world. He can't take advice and when someone offers it he goes nuts. Although i don't have a problem with anyone who benches Marbury or Curry.

D'antoni was a moron who's attitude was my way or the highway, he had favorites and hated certain players, he hated rookies and was overall a jerkoff. Look at what's happening now with the Knicks, traded the #8 pick in the draft for basically nothing because Dumbtoni refused to play him and he had so many arguments with players and played favorites. If one thing stops Lebron from going to NY it's Dumbtoni...

So glad he's gone...I know Gentry isn't much better but at least he tries to get this team to play defense (even though they don't most of the time when they play defense it's the best team defense Ive seen since Frank Johnson was coach) and he actually plays a bench.

With all this being said, when it's time to rebuild after Nash is gone I hope management hires a coach with a DEFENSE first philosophy...

Any coach that goes from having Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire to not having Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire is not going to look as good.

I loved DA but as time passes, I think we are really seeing the flaw in some of his ways. The biggest to me is the use and development of the bench. Where would the Suns be today without all their bench is giving them? With DA still here, it wouldnt be happening.

2nd - You can score alot and quick and still try and play D and rebound and get late stops. Again, where would we be without this philosophy this season?

I hope DA adjusts as he moves forward because I think he has alot of NBA coaching down to a T. His interaction with the players and the media is perfect, and he is a great offensive coach. He just needs to be flexible enough to get decent at D and bench use.

You're so wrong, DA was a part of one of the best strectches in Suns history. Clearly, he didnt get us to the promised land and he had flaws, but to say he's worse than Porter? We went from a great team in the playoffs to a western conference patsy when Porter came?!?!? C'mon dude.

PS: Grew up in Maryvale baby! 55th and Campbell was my hood.

Yeah I know most people would disagree with me on that but I liked Porter's defense first philosophy over D'antoni's SSOL. I still think he could have been a good coach if the team bought into what he was preaching but anyway didn't work out...

He isn't the worst coach in Suns History, that's just ridiculous.
I do think however that he is quite overrated for the success of the Suns success, sure he was the coach but he had a great team with Nash, Marion, Amare, JJ among others who actually made his system possible.
What has happened is that he started off right but got stuck on his own system and didn't take it to another level and refused to make adjustments to his coaching and jumped ship when his feelings got hurt.
His rotation in NY is also questionable, I'm no fan of any of their players but is there any valid reason to bench Nate for huge stretches without giving any kind of valid reason for doing so?
His relationship with his players is something that's going to affect FA's in the future because they know that once you're in his doghouse you may not get any playing time.

His stubbornness was his downfall. If he would've been more open to letting guys like Lopez and Dragic play and played some defense, he may still have a job in Phoenix. But yeah, he's a good coach for a specific contending squad but I don't think you would want to start build a young team with him as your coach.

I feel bad for him. He cares so much if his team is winning or losing. When the Suns would lose, he'll look like he's going to cry; I respect that. I loved him here, although he loved Diaw too much. Him and Nash were close friends.

I actually like the area, certain parts of it of course. I like the urban landscape, hustle and bustle and the walking distance between alot of places. That's probably because when I was out of state most of the places I lived at where urban with the exception when I was in a rural area for a short amount of time. Nothing but farms and dirt roads, thinking back about that makes me appreciate Maryvale
