OT: Matt Leinart vs Derek Anderson

Post#1 » by MaryvalesFinest » Fri Mar 19, 2010 5:49 am

Looking at the other boards it seems like mixed results from Cards fans, some think Leinart deserves to start eitherway because they feel it's his time and want to see what he has in the tank while others think if Anderson comes into camp and outplays Leinart he deserves the starting job. As for myself, I think who ever performs the best in Flagstaff should start.

So the question is, Matt Leinart or Derek Anderson? Who do you choose and why?

By the way for all the stat experts out there, this might help if you want to compare

Anderson was a pro-bowler in 2007 with in a crappy Browns offense. In this offense with Fitz, Breaston, Doucet and our new and improving running game i think he'd be a good QB. We know his biggest asset is his cannon-arm which Leinart doesn't have. I'm sure Fitz prefers the bigger arm but I still think Matt is the guy. He's had lots of time to prepare and i think he's matured off the field. Should be interesting during training camp. IN WHIZ WE TRUST!!!

Yeah the funny thing is the Cards probably have the best two QB's in the NFC West and either of these guys could start on any other team in the division, unless the Rams draft Bradford but than again I'm not sold on him. So it's basically a win-win situation on who wins the starters job.

We now have the 2nd worst QB roster just behind the Raiders. We should have gone after McNabb. Bidwell needs to learn how to open his check book and not be friends with Sarver.

It's intriguing thinking about him with Fitz but he's getting up there in age and could easily start to slow down, there are a few exceptions like Warner but Leinart and Anderson are both farely young still and if none of them work out, there's always the 2011 draft which is deep, but you really think teams like the 49ers or Hawks have better QB's than the Cards? I don't know about that dude.

Honestly, it could go either way, but I prefer to see Leinart pull off an Aaron Rodgers, and become our franchise QB. However, if Anderson can do a better job, then I'd want him to get the starting spot.

Guranteed? I don't know about that. It would go against Whiz's whole philosophy on competition. If Anderson outplays him and proves to be the better player, which is possible I have a hard time seeing him just handing over the starters position to Leinart...we will see I guess though.

Anderson has a rocket arm, he 6 ft 7 and more mobile than Leinart. I'm trying to think of the last time we had a QB who was difficult to sack. Plummer was 7-8 years ago... But i still think it's Matt's job to lose. Whiz loves competition.

I think Matt will start the season as starter due to the fact that he knows the system and it's time for them to know what they have in him. He'll have a certain amount of room to grow into the job but if he struggles and the team starts out poorly then it's derek anderson time. Unfortunately, both guys have a tendency to throw to the other team.

Personally, i like that Whiz announced that Matt is "the guy". I'm all for a healthy competition but it's time to determine if Leinart can succeed on this level. I think he has the higher ceiling based on what he has done on the biggest of stages in college and I like how he has handled himself the last couple years. That being said, I really am amped to see what Anderson can do with actual weapons who can catch the ball (unlike braylon edwards) when/if he is given the chance.

I think It would be a good idea to sign Jeff Garcia as the number 3 QB. He still wants to be an nfl QB, he could probably find a #2 spot somewhere but if he doesn't I think he'd be a great emergency plan in Az.
