Insurance? OR a sign that Robin's recovery isn't going so well?
http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2010/4/ ... es-for-theDwayne Jones will be signing with the Phoenix Suns for the rest of the season according to sources close to the situation.Jones, a 6-foot-11 big man with the Austin Toros, has put up outstanding numbers this season, averaging 17.6 points, 16.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks while shooting 60% from the field.

Looks good!
http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2010/3/30/1397066/brook-lopez-injured-jarron-collinsPhoenix Suns center Robin Lopez is out at least two weeks with a bulging disc, according to this report from Bright Side of the Sun. I honestly didn't think this was that big of a deal - it's Robin Lopez on a team that already stars big man Amare Stoudemire - but according to both BSotS's Seth Pollack's stat-crunching and Basketball Prospectus' Kevin Pelton's number-running, this is actually a pretty unfortunate injury.
Can a D-League player help? While the Suns have been reluctant to use a call-up in the past (miss you, NBA-career-of-Courtney-Sims), the play of a D-Leaguer would almost have to be at least as solid as Lopez replacement Jarron Collins.
How bad is Collins? Jarron Collins is so bad that even Jason Collins is better than him! Sick burn! Pelton explains:
Alvin Gentry started Collins in place of Lopez on Sunday, and Minnesota outscored Phoenix by 11 points with the Stanford product on the floor. Any minutes going to Collins are too many (his net plus-minus, albeit in garbage time, is a dismal -11.4)
[...]
Collins' presence, even for limited minutes, is enough to convince me the Suns are in trouble.
With that in mind, I've decided to take a look at possible D-League options that are big enough to allow Stoudemire to stay at the power froward spot and at least as deserving of an NBA roster spot as Collins.
Funny thing about that article is the link says "Brook Lopez injured" and not Robin.

Big man don't grow on trees perhaps Kerr was impressed by this player and wanted to see how he performs in the rest of the games that season to see if he can be an NBA center. I don't think this indicative of Robin Lopex not being ready for the playoffs. I hope this guy plays really well because then we can have Lopez and this guy out on the floor at the same time which will be like our twin towers or you could do the same thing with Jaron Collins.

Well it's too late for this guy to play in the playoffs for us right? I thought that deadline had passed.

collins should be getting the minutes instead. with frye and lou and amare, suns can skate into the playoffs hobbled while fans pray lopez comes back. if lopez doesnt come back, suns will be better off if collins got the minutes. he's a drop off from lopez but will be serviceable as a placeholding starter in the PO.

Well he is a lot more agile than Jarron Collins so I'm assuming we use him to keep the pace of the game and use Collins against more intellectual players/teams. Couldn't hurt I guess.

Since Lopez is out Collins contributed 3 points on 0 field goals and 9 rebounds in 43 minutes of floor time. Let's be honest - he looked bad. Jones looks agile and more of a Lopez-like player. I hope it doesn't indicate any bad news about Lopez injury but is just reaction for Collins unability to play bigger role.

Here's a bit more from about Dwayne Jones from ridiculous upside article:
Dwayne Jones (6'11", 250 - 17.6 ppg, 15.9 rpg, 1.8 blg, 60% FG, 40 mpg) - Jones' numbers are misleading. His rebounds are inflated due to 6.2 offensive boards (his best quality) and his points mostly come from the foul line (he can't score in the low post, but consistently gets hacked anyway - it's astounding). He's had tryouts with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks already this season, but didn't stick either time. For what it's worth, he was drafted by the Cavaliers after playing on the great St. Joseph's team (Jameer Nelson, Delonte West and him) and has played in 80 career NBA games.
His O-rebounding could be a plus.
Looks like a smart move by the FO. Gives us flexibility by allowing Jones time to get acclimated to our system in case Robin isn't ready in time for the playoffs.

LMAO, after looking up the players that were mentioned on that link i posted, the poll had Rod Benson as the clear cut favorite, so i looked him up and came across this:

Good move, I was surprised the Suns don't get more guys from the D-league, there's alot of talented players who want to prove themselves and he averages 16 rebounds per game? I don't care if it's in the D-league or not if he can put up those numbers there he can definately rebound in the NBA.

If he's able to catch passes and not fall over every 5 seconds he should be a better option than Jarron on offense.
