UFC 312 - DDP/Sean and Weili/Suarez in Sydney, NSW

Post#1 » by Clav » Thu Feb 6, 2025 7:04 pm

Sydney, NSW, Aus - 6PM start time for prelims, so the main card is gonna be Sat night (will be Sunday morning for local audience)

Title fights x2!

D. Du Plessis vs. S. Strickland
185 lbs
Weili Zhang vs. Tatiana Suarez
115 lbs

Looks like Weili and Suarez is compelling. Suarez has had injuries and what not but she's getting a chance and Zhang is no easy out. Meanwhile DDP / Strickland 2 is gonna be a Sean trying to win by decision. I think DDP stamps out this era with a W

Rest of the card is fair, Topuria's brother is fighting, some interesting prospects, but ya, nothing crazy imo for a PPV.

T. Teixeira vs. Justin Tafa
265 lbs
Jimmy Crute vs. R. Bellato
205 lbs
Jake Matthews vs. F. Prado
170 lbs
Jack Jenkins vs. Gabriel Santos
145 lbs
Tom Nolan vs. V. Borshchev
155 lbs
Cong Wang vs. Bruna Brasil
125 lbs
A. Topuria vs. C. Thicknesse
135 lbs
Kody Steele vs. Rongzhu
155 lbs
Kevin Jousset vs. J. Micallef
170 lbs
Q. Salkilld vs. Anshul Jubli
155 lbs
Hyun Sung Park vs. N. Tumendemberel
125 lbs

Top to bottom one of the worst cards of all time. They should just stop coming here if this is what they’re serving up.

Bunch of debutants, no ranked fighters, retired guy on the main card and a main event literally no one wanted.

If they had of made it khamzat over Sean the rest would have been forgiven. As it is now I’ll only be tuning in for the co main.

Absolute trash.

Actually the early prelims have been higher quality then most main cars fight nights so far.

Also. Happy for Quil. Admittedly I'm not a great fighter or anything. But he trains at the same place I train and also goes to the same strength/conditioning place I do. I believe he's a good fighter and belongs at the highest level.

Absolutely starched the dude. Might be an early stoppage in some people's eyes but the dude was 100% out and the ref decided to call it before he got up and showed some life. Fight wasn't gonna get any better for him.

High taxes and low pay for UFC fighters means a lot of mid talent not willing.

If you had another fight like they tried to book Usman V JDM it would be a lot better. If Lopez V Volk would of happened/been ready as well card looks so much better

The 47% tax straight up if you don't have an Australian tax file number is rough. Especially when you have to then pay coaches. Expenses. You could be on 50k show 50k win, suddenly you win and you only get 57k into your account. You have to pay 10% to the coach+gym. Then a good 5/6k to house/flights. You have a UFC win for less then 9 months minimum wage of a dude who's cleaning your hotel for 4 days a week here.

They do pay out the ass for the top of the card as to promote it to get the top heavy guys over. But imagine your a featured prelim dude

Strickland was cooked after that broken nose, Driscus started being a little reckless after trying to finish but I think Strickland would of been struggling to breathe by the 4/5th and Driscus just had to control

4-1 Driscus i think. Strickland was just on ice after that hit, Driscus looked 15-20 kilos heavier then Strickland

Watched the main and co main after the fact.

Tatiana was disappointing. She gassed after the first. Weili is so good. Her vs Valentina next please.

The main was just so bad. No greater example of two retards fighting. Is crazy how bad ddp is and but somehow so good.

Strickland just doesn’t do anything. Glad he lost he’s boring as **** and a **** anyway.

Caught the entire card, but wasn't really thrilled to follow some of the fights so I made dinner in there around Cong Wang's fight lol

The card for a PPV felt like a Fight Night, although the two title fights were okay. I enjoyed Weili's performance the most even though I Wanted Suarez to win, she was outclassed in her best tactic, wrestling, and had no answers on the feet.

DDP is just better than Strickland - who basically has no functional urgency when he needs to. DDP looked much improved and wa happy to keep it standing all match. Sean had 0 strategy to take the fight to the ground or to win rounds.

Best fight was the Crute/Bellato bout though it was a maj-draw, and the Rongzhu and Steele fight.

My complaints are similar to some of you guys, the taxation in Australia for fighters makes them heavily reconsider booking there. UFC I think would not compensate fighters more just because of that, but they should consider it  Some of the AUS cards are really top-heavy, and not many fighters seem eager to fly there.
