Elite XC Folds!!!

Post#1 » by Derekman » Tue Oct 21, 2008 1:59 am

This is huge. Looks like the Nov. 8th card is scrapped which was undoubtedly going to be one of their best shows ever. There's so much talent on their roster that the UFC should try to land. Shields, Diaz, Alvarez, Lawler, Radach, Reis, Feijao and even Rodgers need to be picked up.

Apparently Seth's comments turned CBS away after it was almost a done deal about them acquiring EliteXC. Man. Screw you Seth.

i also heard the story and i think it came from here at least the quote...

who knows if its true tho, its just a reliable source. from a fans point of view i would rather have one major league like the nfl for mma which should be the ufc. but i understand competition is a good thing.

Several fighters with EliteXC have gotten word today the promotion is down for the count after CBS pulled out of talks to purchase the company. The death of the deal was the Seth Petruzelli statements causing the investigation by the Florida Boxing Commission on the Kimbo vs. Petruzelli fight.

The UFC will probably pick up Seth, just as a thank you haha.
They should pick up Kimbo for a few dollars as well and pit him against someone of real talent and let the world see what a can he really is.
Kimbo will have to accept any pay day he can now. He made great money while he could, but he's never going to make money again.

In the EliteXC thread for the last show, I set the over/under for EXC shutting down at 2 weeks.

I was off by three days.

Rumor has it that UFC has already been in contact with the agents of Jake Shields, Robbie Lawler, and Nick Diaz. They would be a huge shot in the arm to 3 divisions quickly running out of challengers for great champions.

If Affliction is smart it will snap up a lot of these guys and add depth to their top heavy, but not very deep, stable of fighters. Antonio Silva and Kimbo would both be good fits at Affliction.

WEC needs to sign Wilson Reis. He can be one of the lambs to the Urijah Faber slaughter, as he is a top 15 Featherweight in the world.

The real question is, where does Gina Carano end up?

Strikeforce or Affliction most likely. I would like to see WEC start up a women's division.

I like the dramatic pause between your guess and the ultimate conclusion. You're really someone to pay attention to.

I probably shouldn't be as happy as I am about this.

Let's hope the UFC signs the bulk of the quality fighters that are now free agents. I think Affliction will make some stupid offers to some of them though. I'd rather skip the stage where they pay Jake Shields and Robbie Lawler $400,000 each to fight some old IFL guys before going out of business and just have them sign with the UFC right away.

Shields will almost deffinately go to the UFC. He has been making a lot of noise recently about fighting guys like Fitch, Kos, and St. Pierre. He would gain nothing from going to Affliction, who has even less at 170 than EliteXC did. Lawler to Affliction is more likely, but I think he ends up with the UFC as well. Outside of these 2 guys though, Affliction is in play for pretty much anyone else.

I am really curious to see where KJ Noons ends up. He seems to kind of be the forgotten man in all of this. WEC might be a good spot, he could take on Varner right away.

I'm not a real big fan of KJ, but he would be a good fit in the WEC. He'd probably get destroyed by the top 10-15 guys at LW in the UFC, and Affliction has about 3 LWs, so the WEC would be the best spot for him.

Please let this lead to a Kimbo Slice vs. Brock Lesnar match for the UFC Heavyweight title... I would pay $200 out of my own pocket TONIGHT to watch Brock level this fool. I'm tired of the hype. I know Petruzelli put him to shame, but there's a lot of folks trying to deny what he did as a fluke.

As for EliteXC, they were a TERRIBLE brand. Hopefully UFC will capitalize off of their downfall and pick up some of the key names off their roster to add to the talent pool
