well, does chad dawson interest you?
PBF called him the best #4# fighter in all of boxing.
now i cant give THAT much praise, but he is a nasty nasty fighter.
great jab, has the hand speed of a welterweight, great combination puncher, monster body puncher, decent defense (mixing up footwork with a peek-a-boo) and he fights smart, never smothering himself or throwing wild punches.
i loved how he went to the body, especially his short left cross to the ribs that lead to his right hooks to the body and head. he's easily got the best southpaw hook in all of boxing.
i didnt like how he took rounds off, but i think that was part of his strategy.
tarver fought well IMO, but he was overwhelmed by bad chad's hand speed and body punching. tarver's got nothing to be embarrassed about, he lost to the better man tonight. i think he's got something left in the tank. odds are calzaghe will target him next to put another "name" on his shtty resume. you know joe wants nothing to do with pavlik or dawson.

now he does. :) I remember thinking that Johnson had won their fight, but he looked fantastic last night.

an incredibly pleasing fight to watch. not only the hand-speed, but the coordination of those combinations. that was just great.

not a huge believer in Tarver, though. even in the tune-ups since the Hopkins fight he looked only average.

so how long before Pavlik can get to 175?

you know joe wants nothing to do with pavlik or dawson.

Pavlik and Dawson are such clear contenders, he can't possibly take a fight with anyone else.

I'd guess the only way he could avoid it would be to take some sort of further UK rivalry nonsense.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

-i could see how someone would score that fight for johnson. the fight was that close, but i just think dawson learned a lot that fight. he learned more about how to deal with pressure, how to fight someone with a granite chin and learned how to pace himself a bit.

-pavlik still has some unfinished business at middle and super middle. if he wins next week he could either fight abraham (who i think is done with MW after this next fight) or kessler, but im unsure how big of a draw either of those guys would be here. is pavlik a big enough draw to create enough demand by himself? i dont think he'd move up to 175 til he has at least a couple of fights at super middle. the taylor II fight was at a higher catch weight and kelly did not look as powerful or sharp as he did at middle. besides, i'd prefer that both he and dawson get a few more wins and more exposure to build up the match a bit.

-if calzaghe wins and is unwilling to fight dawson at 175, i think it's possible that dawson drops down to 168 or challenges some of the same guys pavlik could fight, maybe at a catch weight. i think dawson can still make 168 and judging from his previous actions, belts dont mean much to him so the move is possible. other than calzaghe (who wont fight him), a rematch with g.johnson or a unification bout with the overrated midget adrian diaconu are other options. its interesting becuz now that he's got the IBF belt, top american prospect tavoris cloud becomes dawson's mandatory. that could be a nice match down the line, but i think its too early for cloud to a get a title shot and it'd be too risky of a match with little reward for dawson.

-i highly doubt calzaghe will fight either of them though. his camp already came out and said that they wouldnt fight pavlik.
he's not that type of fighter. he's all about putting names on his resume now after an entire career of dominating a terrible division and fighting "contenders."
he'll finish his career soon, possibly undefeated, with only one notable, decisive victory over a prime, top level fighter (kessler).
if he beats RJJ, i think he'll either challenge tarver or glen johnson for a send away fight back home.

I didn't get to see the fight. I don't have showtime and honestly I wanted to go out out instead of looking for a stream. By all accounts both of the fights were routes.

It is very disappointing that Peter lost in my opinion. Boxing in the mainstream lives and dies by the heavyweight division. There is no chance that the heavyweight division gets a unified champ anytime soon.
