Haven't heard much talk about this event here or anywhere else really. Not the best card the WEC has ever put on, but it's got a pretty good main event, Jose Aldo is fighting, and McCullough vs. Hicks should be good. There could always be some great fights in the prelims as well, though I only recognize a few names.

Seems like this card is really suffering without Faber or Torres to be the big drawing cards. It didn't help that they had to scrap Condit vs. Larson, which would have made this into a pretty damn good show.

As it is, I think Brown successfully defends against Garcia, and Palaszewksi, Aldo, and McCullough win their fights.

I'll take...

Brown
Palaszewski
Aldo
Hicks
Castillo
Galvao
Hendricks
Osawa
Karalexis
Budnik
Haskins

This is a pretty weak card for the WEC, but their next card looks better. Also, with the loss of the 170 lb. division and the addition of 125, it will take some time to add in some newer stars. Brown vs. Garcia and Aldo fighting makes it must see TV for me. Keep an eye on Hendricks, he is a good young fighter.

Decent show.

Hicks vs. McCullough was weird. Rounds 1 and 3 were horrible, but round 2 was awesome. It was strange hearing the ref threaten to declare it a NC.

Aldo looked impressive, but he should get a real test next time.

Nice finish by Page.

Lamas vs. Palaszewski was fairly entertaining. I was surprised to see Lamas dominate the fight (for the most part) like that. He took the fight on very short notice, and I think he was making his WEC debut....usually not the profile of a guy who is going to dominate a fight against a highly regarded fighter. Although I'm not really sure why they seemed to be hyping up Palaszewski so much anyway.

Brown beat the living **** out of Garcia. Garcia showed heart by holding on for so long after that first shot that put him down and the ensuing barrage of GNP, but Brown was just too much for him. I'd like to see him take on a fresh opponent, but it seems like the WEC is set on doing the rematch with Faber. I'd love for him to KO Faber with something a bit more conventional this time and show the first fight wasn't a fluke.

Here is what I learned last night...

Jose Aldo is a stud
Lamas is legit
Razor Rob has gone soft
All former IFL lightweights were overrated (Schultz, Palasewski, Horadecki...)
Damacio Page is terrifying and needs anger management
Mike Brown is a freaking monster

A Brown vs. Faber rematch will be the biggest fight in WEC history.

How is Horodecki exposed as overrated? He hasn't fought in almost a year.

Man, the level, overall, of striking in MMA is garbage. Garcia was trying to throw bolos from his sternum. After watching the JMM vs Diaz boxing match this weekend, this event was pretty shameful.

that 'ballet of violence' moniker by Rogan should have been given to Damacio Page from the beginning

edit. nvm Page doesn't exactly show finesse. It does suit ASilva then heh

Because all the guys he beat to get the next big thing moniker are being destroyed in other organizations. Schultz beat the tar out of him and has floundered since. Bart was his big win and he has floundered since.

By and large I think the caliber of talent in the IFL was higher than people thought, except in the LW division.

Shut it, loud mouth. Horodecki has been fighting shootboxing over the past year and has looked really solid. He's ever improving his ground game. He's also _only 21 years old_.

Wow, sorry to touch a nerve Mrs. Horodecki, I never meant ill will toward your son.

I didn't say Horodecki was some sort of bum, only that since the folding of the IFL their vaunted lightweight division has looked pretty bad. Sure he can improve, but considering his only wins over name opponents came over Bart Palasweski (who got rolled by a 5-0 no name the other night) and Ryan Schultz (who has looked bad since leaving the IFL and mauled Horodecki in his last IFL fight), it stands to reason that his hype is looking unwarranted. He was the lone bright young star in the IFL, so they pushed him to no end. But, when you get right down to it, he has fought very little in the way of comeptition.

I like the kid and find him fun to watch for the record.

Apparently. I never said I didn't like the kid, just that the guys he beat up to become the next big thing are being exposed.

True story....

I haven't met him yet but Mike Brown is my brothers landlord here in Maine. I should be meeting him within a few months. I can't wait. My brothers roommate is one of Brown's best friends growing up. I heard he's really cool to hang out with and just a really nice guy. It's cool to think that I actually hang out at his house.
