First, they may be trying to cash in on Shogun looking good in his last fight. I'm still not convinced that the old Shogun is back based on that Liddell fight, but at least now they get a legit main event out of it instead of him possibly losing to a Jardine or Luiz Cane. He's probably the most deserving guy that isn't tied up with another fight, but I'm not sure I buy him as a legit threat....then again, who is a legit threat to Machida at this point.

Second, I wonder if the UFC is trying to build the LHW title back up around Machida. The belt has been passed around a bit lately with 5 champs in the last 2 years (not sure if Liddell-Rampage was earlier in the month than Evans-Machida 2 years ago), and they may want Machida to get a few title defenses in before throwing Griffin or Rampage at him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jardine or Franklin get a shot after Shogun but before Rampage/Evans/Griffin.

teh ghey... I would have liked to see rampage and lyoto as he is the most deserving out of a whole sorry bunch of 205ers who've proven little.

I don't mean that Jardine would deserve it, just that he would get a shot anyway so Machida could get a successful title defense.

I mean, I'm sure Jeremy Horn wasn't the real #1 contender when he got a shot at Chuck.

It already looks like the LHW division is getting a bit of Anderson Silva syndrome. Now that Machida is champ and looks unstoppable, the division seems a lot weaker than it did even just a few weeks ago when most would have called it the strongest division in MMA.

That fight was so Chuck could avenge his lost to Horn earlier in his career.

I know, but even with that win over Chuck, that was a **** weak title fight. I was just using it as an example. Babalu is another one, but he may have legitimately been the #1 contender in the UFC's weak LHW division at the time.
