You aren't kidding. When I said Rodgers had a puncher's chance, I didn't think he was going to do that to Arlovski.

man when Arvloski actually went out, that look he gets on his face when he gets rocked. Its scary, but in a sad way. That guy is really talented, but we have seen that look on his face alot. . .

Diaz picked Smith apart, got submission.
I knew Rogers had power and we continue to see Arlovski's suspect chin

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Just watched back the event now [well just the fights themselves].
I can't say I am that impressed with Rogers in so much as we didn't see much, he could be a great striker, but really AA got caught, and it seems that it can happen at any time with him. But props to Rogers, he got it done, so I'll just wait to see him again before I really pass more judgement on him.
I like Smith and Diaz both about the same, but I was leaning towards wanting Smith to win, but Diaz was excellent, and that sub was a nice touch to finish.
Glad Shields won as well. I am not a fan of him really, but I dislike Lawler, and that guillotine was excellent. But definatly cammo, Shields is legit, it wasn't an easy fight and he got the 1st round victory without taking any damage really, impressive vs Lawler.
Whitehead with a good win for his career, but I wasn't impressed with Randlemans "rebirth" or whatever he was calling it. Riggs knocked out a solid decision, but given how much time he had in dominating position [most of the 15 minutes really ..] I'd like to have seen a finish from it, but he got the win which really is all that matters.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Good show.
Whitehead vs. Randleman was kinda boring, but it had its moments. Looks like Randleman's comeback will be shortlived, although I'm sure he'll get another fight now that he's shaken the ring rust off.
Riggs vs. Baroni was pretty one-sided, but entertaining anyway. Would have liked to see a finish as well though.
Diaz vs. Smith was great. Diaz was peppering him the whole time, but I always had that feeling that Smith could have one last flurry and catch him. Didn't happen obviously. Smith seemed pretty upset that Diaz wouldn't slap hands before the 3rd round. Diaz did seem even more disrespectful than usual, which seemed a bit odd to me just because it seems like everyone likes and respects Smith. I love watching Diaz fight though. It's so much fun to see him punch a guy like 200 times in an MMA fight and then finish with a sub.
Arlovski vs. Rogers was....WOW. From the live angle I actually thought it was a bad stoppage, but on the replay....man was he out. I have no idea how to rank either guy right now. I have a feeling we'll be seeing Rogers on a lot of top 10 lists, possibly as high as top 5 because of this, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give him all that much credit for it. If he had controlled the fight for a little longer, I'd give him more credit, but right now it just feels like he happened to catch the better fighter with a weak chin (and yes, Arlovski does have a weak chin). Feels a bit like Thiago/Koscheck to me, in that I would definitely pick AA in a rematch.
Lawler vs. Shields was another surprise. Thought Lawler would be able to defend the takedowns and keep it standing for long enough to knock Shields out (and I didn't think it would take that long), but he left his neck out there and Shields took advantage. Maybe Shields' advantage in grappling was actually better than Lawler's advantage striking. What I found interesting was that it sounded like he wanted to stay at 185. Might not be bad for him in Strikeforce actually, as none of their 185ers are real huge beasts. I'd rather see Cung Le fight Nick Diaz though. That would be all kinds of awesome.
Oh, and pretty big announcement that Carano vs. Cyborg is finally happening on August 15th along with Thomson vs. Melendez. Sounds like the ladies get top billing, which is a little crazy, but I guess to the casual fan it might make sense. I hope Carano's pretty face doesn't get messed up too badly. In all seriousness, I think I'm actually picking her to win. Cyborg will be too reckless and I think Gina will be able to pick her apart. People like to pick on Gina for some reason, but she's an excellent female fighter.

Diaz is a punk, but he sure is entertaining. He got stunned a bit on one of his taunts. Props to Shields for taking advantage of Lawler's mistake. If he didn't get that choke he was in trouble.
And poor, poor Arlovski. He was on the wrong end of a highlight for his 2nd fight in a row.

guillotine smegmatine - it takes no set-up, proves nothing. unless that's all you're ever going to do. it proves no wrestling, no transition game, no striking.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
poor Andrei. I feel bad for the guy.
Smith's defense is unbelievably bad. the Lawler fight 2 YEARS AGO exposed his lack of head movement, he still hasn't adjusted. what does he do in the gym??? just conditioning? no trainer has taken it upon themselves to teach him anything?
I don't see what's suspect. anyone gets KOd by that.
moving straight back is suspect when you're a pure boxer.

oh yeah, and Baroni has more heart than anyone in MMA. the beatings he's taken at the hands of Hose, Shamrock and now Riggs - without ever quitting or looking for the easy way out - are unbelievable.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
I really disliked Baroni prior to his fight with Riggs but I gained a lot of respect for him. My opinion of him has pretty much changed after that fight (although I am still glad Riggs won).
Riggs is only 26 years old. What the hell do you make of him now? He seems like he's been around forever and he looked really good Saturday night. He's in great shape, he's 5-2 since leaving the UFC with Baroni being the only decision in that span. Does he get another shot at the UFC? Does he settle down with Strikeforce and being make a run at their welterweight title, that is currently vacant? I still that he fought as a heavyweight many moons ago.
AA got clipped on the top of the head, two HARD punches to the chin, and then a punch to the side of the neck. That has nothing to do with having a suspect chin.
Was Smith actually measuring Diaz up by letting Diaz punch him in the face or does he simply have no head movement whatsoever? I counted at least 5 liver shots that Diaz hit Smith with that left Smith's knees wobbly but he kept fighting. If someone would give Smith a boxing lesson or two then I do think he could be an even more dangerous fighter but that is a giant hole in his game, no matter how tough he is, and he's never going to break through the upper level competition without fixing it. He'll continue to steamroll through washed up Terry Martin's but if he has to face someone like Diaz or Lawler, he will get picked apart. mahalo

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Riggs is another one of those guys who are just radically inconsistent. Talented enough to beat most, but also capable of mailing it in and losing to a can. See also Nick Diaz...until recently maybe. Hopefully both have turned a corner, because I like watching them both.

Re: June 6th Strikeforce Event
Riggs was supposed to fight Jake Shields before they made the Shields/Lawler fight. He feels like Shields has been ducking him for a while. Might not be a bad idea to have them fight for a WW Title. Unless they don't want to create a title until they have a decent roster to compete for it.
Diaz vs. Riggs would be another fight that makes some sense, but even though Riggs is coming off a win, I feel like he would be a step down for either Shields or Diaz.
I wouldn't mind seeing Riggs vs. Paul Daley, actually.
I can't believe people still don't think Arlovski's chin is a little shaky.
Shields was the better man against Lawler. I don't see why a guillotine proves nothing. It proves more than a lot of the KOs we see. If it doesn't prove anything about Shields' grappling ability, it sure as **** proves something about Lawler's lack thereof. Granted, it's an easy submission to put someone in, but it's not the easiest submission to finish, as people routinely escape. Somehow I doubt anyone is going to claim that Grispi isn't better than Pulver because he only won by guillotine.

I know. And then they apparently fought some more in the hospital afterward. Not sure if they have put that behind them, but I'm sure they could revisit old feelings to hype the fight.
