#8 - Tito Ortiz

UFC Record (14-6-1)

Tito Ortiz was the UFC's first breakthrough cross over superstar. He took the UFC by storm with his abrasive personality and brutal ground and pound. The former Light Heavyweight champ is best known for his 3 wins over bitter rival Ken Shamrock and for his 2 losses to Chuck Liddell. Ortiz has fought the best of the best at Light Heavyweight and has wins over Wanderlei Silva, Evan Tanner, Vitor Belfort, and Forrest Griffin to prove it. Tito also has a draw against Rashad Evans. Without Tito Ortiz, the UFC would never have gotten as big as it has. He was the first true superstar and was involved in many of the most high profile fights in UFC history.

#7 - BJ Penn

UFC Record (9-4-1)

BJ Penn burst onto the UFC scene with wins over Din Thomas and Caol Uno in 2 of his first 3 professional fights. His loss to Jens Pulver for the vacant Lightweight title was one of the best Lightweight fights in UFC history. BJ moved up to Welterweight and became the champion by beating Matt Hughes and eventually went back down to Lightweight to also win that title. In doing so, BJ became only the second fighter in UFC history to win titles in 2 different weight class (more on the other guy to do it later). Penn also holds wins over Matt Serra, Jens Pulver, and Sean Sherk. He has been a part of many of the biggest moments in octagon history, including his 2 losses to Georges St. Pierre and rematch loss to Matt Hughes.

#6 - Royce Gracie

UFC Record (11-2-1)

Royce Gracie is the godfather of the UFC and MMA in general. He is the champion of UFC 1, UFC 2, and UFC 4. His only losses in the UFC came to Harold Howard and Matt Hughes (much later in his career). Gracie and his BJJ blitzed through the UFC on an 8 fight winning streak to start his career. He sports wins over Ken Shamrock, Kimo Leopoldo, and Dan Severn. Royce Gracie is MMA royalty and the man who made MMA by tapping out men who outweighed him by over 100 pounds, proving MMA was a skill sport and not just a matter of size and strength.
