He is a name who can get young guys over. Luis Cane would be a good first fight for Tito.

Given that its the LHW division, thats no small thing.

Actually, LHW is the most shallow division of the big 5 in MMA in my opinion. It is also the most top heavy though. When I do my top 20 rankings, I feel like the 18-20 guys are weaker at LHW than any other division (HW is close too). Most divisions I feel bad leaving some guys off, but at LHW I wonder what guy I should even have at #20.

To prove my point, here is who I have at 18-20 in the big 5 weight classes.

HW
18. Tim Sylvia
19. Paul Buentello
20. Aleksander Emelianenko

LHW
18. Brandon Vera
19. Trevor Prangley
20. Wanderlei Silva

MW
18. Patrick Cote
19. Kazuo Misaki
20. Hector Lombard

WW
18. Marcus Davis
19. Lyman Good
20. Paulo Thiago

LW
18. Gray Maynard
19. Spencer Fisher
20. Vitor Ribeiro

Tito Ortiz vs. Jon Jones is a match I want to see.

Tito will likely be used in a roll like this, as a litmus test for young up and comers. Guys like Jones and Luiz Cane.

Stephen Bonnar said he wants Tito if he signs.

Wanderlei and Vera should be up higher in my opinion. Vera maybe not so much, but Wanderlei should be top 10 or just barely out of it.

bonner should be cut from the UFC. He's been riding the TUF finale for far too long.

I don't think Dana will ever cut Bonnar. The fact that he can be busted for steroids, get manhandled by a 21 year old, get manhandled by a 44 year old, and still be on the roster is a testament to that.

Really? You do know it is not 2003 anymore right? Silva is 1-5 in his last 6 fights. He is lucky the LHW class is so shallow or he would not be ranked at all. Should Jens Pulver still be a top 10 145 pounder too?

Wanderlei is 15th in the LHW division, its not like i think he deserves a title shot or anything (just my opinion). I don't care about Pulver, but how could you have Maynard whos undefeated in MMA/UFC at 18th or whatever you have him ranked. Maynard has to be in line for a title shot soon next to Diego in LW.

Because most of the best Lightweights are outside of the UFC.

He's beaten everybody thats been put towards him, the problem is he hasn't had real competition in that division yet (except for Edgar and Clementi).

Very debatable.

It's really tough to say because there are so few common opponents between the UFC LWs and the rest (and even then you have to decide what you want to take from that), but in the ones we know about, the UFC LWs come out looking pretty good.

For example, Josh Thomson is ranked pretty highly. But why? Because he beat Gilbert Melendez? He's also lost to Clay Guida, who is hardly the class of the UFC LW division.

Anyway, the point of this is that Maynard should be ranked quite a bit higher. If he beats Huerta (which he should), he's probably next in line for a title shot.

I actually like Maynard quite a bit, but he only really has one decent win, and that is the Edgar fight. They need to step him up in class before he goes into the top 10. The Huerta fight is a good start. Lightweight is such a deep division.
