Diaz vs Malignaggi, Sat Aug 22

Post#1 » by cowboyronnie » Tue Aug 18, 2009 6:13 pm

Former unified lightweight world champion Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz takes on former 140-pound world titleholder Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi on Saturday in the headliner at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The co-featured bout sees IBF junior lightweight world champion Malcolm Klassen challenged by heavy-handed Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero as he looks for a world title in a second weight class. Opening up the nationally televised portion of the card is unbeaten rising middleweight star Daniel “The Golden Child” Jacobs against ‘Contender’ alumnus Ishe Smith.

I'm super pumped for this one. A bull and a matador.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I hate Paulie.... but the man has a great chin. The only way Diaz gets a KO is by a cut or his corner stops it.

I mean... he went 12 rounds vs Cotto, and 11 vs Hatton until the always ready to fold( Buddy McGirt) threw in the towel. Diaz isn't in the same class as them...

Diaz by TKO - I see Diaz just walking Paulie down. Cotto isn't a one punch KO guy and Hatton was having his way with Paulie who was just hugging the whole time. Will Paullie be able to hold and hug Diaz - I am not sure. Hatton style allows for hugging and whole as he does a fair bit himself.

I'm shocked with Lederman's score card having Paulie winning 115-113, I had Diaz winning 115-113. Whatever judge scored it 118-110 is smoking crack, fight was too close for a score like that .

It wasn't that bad...best part of the fight was Lennox Lewis trying to pronounce Malignaggi.

118-110 though...

I honestly think Marquez-Diaz II would be different at 140. Malignaggi better not show his face in public anywhere in Houston after that...

I watched the replay of the card last night because of baseball and football, so it ended around 1am. I was really starting to fall asleep when this happened...

  He tried to pronounce it twice and completely butchered it. The card is being replayed right now on HBO-W, maybe I'll tune in a couple hours just to see this moment.

Actually the fight was good and much closer than the judges had it. 118-110 is a joke. Other fights on the card were 'meh'. Happy for Guerrero since he's from the Bay Area and all the stuff going on with his wife. Good tributes to Arguello, Gatti, and Forrest.

Diaz didn't implement much of his style at all. Paulie won that.

Giving Paulie only 2 rounds??? Uyy.

I loved the fight. The first couple rounds, that was about as aggressive and exciting as jab work gets. Paulie owned the early-mid rounds too, landing a few combos and predicting Diaz's counters with head movement or parrys. It was a nice performance.

That's how he would have won. Given the fight didn't look anything like that,...

I don't know why Kellerman kept pulling the mic from Paulie in the ring interview.

"Boxing is full of ****. I used to love this sport. I can't stand doing this. The only reason I do this is because it gives me a good payday. Boxing is full of ****."

That was not cynicism strictly over the decision.
