Brock is the baddest man on the planet and CLEARLY the #1 HW, but i think Cain has a real shot to beat him.

How? I like Cain, and think he deserves a title shot, but I am having a hard time figuring out how he goes about beating Lesnar. He is a good 4 pounds lighter than Brock and has less punching power than Carwin. IMO his best chance it to try to survive and pray Brock gasses.

He puts his punches together in beautiful combos, and it will have Brock reeling; Brock cannot counter-punch, so any stinging, confusing shots will have him moving backwards. That's all Cain will need.

He needs to avoid going after Lesnar on the ground and make him stand back up. Clearly, it's tough to GnP Lesnar to a finish, that needs to be noted by everyone going forward.

Carwin is 35, I'm afraid. There can't be too much longer.

I just found that out.
I thought he was much younger than that for some reason

I did too. I was surprised when seeing the Tale Of The Tape - Brock 32, Carwin 35. These guys aren't Rory MacDonalds.

Man, Reljic really disappointed. That was crazy LnP. And one judge gave it to him?! Eee. That would have been the end of Grove's contract.

Pelegrino too. I think he must have been nursing an injury of some sort. He looked real bad.

That Renzo black belt...IDK about him. His high kicks were crazy fast, that's for sure.

I don't think so. He was still defending himself. Huge shots, his head getting jacked, but he was defending.

This is how I saw it as well.
I watched the fight again last night, and when I wasn't caught in the moment and was looking at it rationally Lesnar ate some huge shots but he was protecting himself very well and even throwing shots as an indication he was alright.
It was actually when he threw shots so that the ref didn't stop it that he took punches to the face, the vast majority on Carwin's shots landed on Brocks tree trunk forearms.
I'd actually say that most of his punches didn't do a lot of damage, it was when he was poised and dropped massive forearms and elbows that were rocking Brock. If Carwin comes in with a bit more savy next time he stands a good chance of winning (if we have a next time in the next year or so)

On another note, Carwin said he had muscle seizures from dehydration, which is why he lost in the second...

Supposedly the UFC wants Lesnar to fight Cain Velasquez at UFC 119 on September 25th. That seems early but Brock said he didn't suffer any damage and the UFC needs a headliner.

I was thinking it'd be 119 or 120. As Dana said he likes guys to back up quickly if they are healthy. Brock's farming will have to wait.

That card is shaping up pretty nicely (all rumoured)

Lesnar vs Velasquez
Rampage vs Lil Nog
Ryan Bader vs Chris Lytle
Matt Matrione vs Joey Beltran
Melvin Guillard vs Jeremy Stephens
CB Dollaway vs Joe Doerksen

Beau-t-iful. Joe D's a sentimental favorite, good to see him get a profile TUFer.

Leben earned that win no doubt. But that guy has the ugliest fight style, honestly. Good win for him though.

Ha. I didn't notice that. In my mind's eye of their physiques only, I was imagining Lytle would have a tough time with Bader's size. But I actually might have favored him.

Just seen the Harris fight - ddint get a chance to watch it yesterday. Man that was an awesome slam, and as Joe says, props for not taking a hit afterwards, I am sure there is a ton of guys in the UFC that would have taken a few shots afterwards.

Harris has some nice skills, developing nicely has to be said.

The UFC really seems to be trying to bring him along slowly. They seem to know what they have in Harris.

I'd argue the UFC has no idea what they have in Harris. Or at least they didn't. I was surprised that he didn't even get to fight at the Ultimate Finale for his season. It took him a long time and a lot of determination for him to finally get a contract and since then he has been given three undefeated fighters on the undercard. They probably expected him to lose each time.

Hopefully he's at least one of the scheduled Spike fights next time. He's a former high school teacher and stand-up comedian. He finishes his fights in explosive and devastating fashion. He seems like an easy guy to promote. :dontknow:

You may be right. He definitely should have been in the UFC a lot quicker than it took.

I think Harris just slipped Dana/the UFC's mind. I was listening to the MMAJunkie podcast thing when he called up and asked Dana for a shot. He'd won like 6 fights in a row and Dana was really open to giving him a fight, told him to call head office etc and within weeks he was on a card.
