Arum: Pacquiao-Mayweather possible with Don King

Top Rank, Inc. head honcho Bob Arum expressed optimism that the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather, Jr. fight could finally happen if the unbeaten American will choose Don King as his new promoter.

“We had some good laughs. All that old stuff, that old history, is gone now. We're both old codgers now. If Mayweather chose Don as his promoter, I have no doubt what would happen,” Arum told Michael Marley of Examiner.com.

“Don and I would go into a locked room. Then we'd roll around on the floor for a while. When we came out of the room, we'd have a deal and Manny and Floyd would be fighting each other next,” he added.

Meantime, King disclosed that Mayweather feels he is not getting “the proper respect from his representatives.”

“He wants his dignity, his respect and his pride to remain intact and he wants to get paid. That's where I come in. I'm the mix master,” King stated.

“If he comes with me I'm going to make him bigger than he can imagine. If he goes back with them, they're going to give him the kitchen sink... I'm laying in the cut and hoping something works out. If not, we're having fun,” he added.

I have no idea why Mayweather's been hanging around Don King. If they get together, it's great for the fans and great for the sport that Pacquiao and Mayweather get into the ring, but history shows it would be a horrible deal for Mayweather.

Legit thread.

I couldn't give a **** about how Mayweather would fare in this deal, but I'd be worried about the means of hype King would undertake.

If it means we get to see Mayweather vs. Pacquio then I am all for it. But at this point I am beginning to question whether Floyd even wants that fight.

I don't particularly like how Don King is instilling in Mayweather that he doesn't need the Pacquiao fight. I think that at this point, after all that has gone down, they both need each other. Both of their careers have been great respectively, but this match puts the winner over the top. As much as I don't like Don King, if he can make the fight happen, I'm for it.

i agree with you i dont think he wants that fight and manny and his camp clearly want it. floyd is beaten before the fight even starts if the fight goes down cuz in his mind he can see him loosing. which IMO is something i dont think hes ever thought before. regardless this fight NEEDS to happen and when/if it does im gonna treat it like a holiday.
