Although I agree with their rankings, it's just weird to see Fedor and BJ ranked so low.

Nelson was #11 before the loss last night. He already has a loss to Rothwell and truthfully he does not even any marquee wins since joining the UFC. He would never have been in a contender fight had it not been for his TUF popularity. I like Big Country, but his resume does not hold up right now to the 3 guys you listed. Truthfully though, 11-17 is a muddled mess at HW.

And yes, it is very weird to see Fedor and BJ that low.

Rothwell and especially Sylvia haven't done anything in years, I agree it's muddled there though.

Since Rothwell beat Nelson, he has gone 5-2, with wins over Yvel, Krysztof, and Ricco Rodriguez. Nelson has gone 7-3 since that fight, but most of those were against bums in the IFL. He beat a couple of fringe top 25ers in Struve and Schaub, but that is not much to warrant being a borderline top 10 guy. Sylvia has been all over the map lately, but he was a UFC champ not long ago with big names on his resume. I don't see how feasting on IFL guys and a couple marginal wins over Schaub and Struve make Nelson a top 12 guy.

I think he is just more likable than those other two.

Nelson tossed Monson around like a ragdoll and arguably won the Rothwell fight. He's been very unlucky with the judges.

Filho has taken a lot of **** for being crazy, but at the end of the day, the guy is still 20-1, with some wins over guys on this list.

You beat me to it and said exactly what I was going to say. The guy is 20-1-1, and has victories over Sonnen, Manhoef, Doerksen, Misaki, Chonan, Ninja Rua, Suloev, Kondo, and Minowaman. Had he not gone crazy and left the public eye, he may very well be in the top 10 right now.

Compare that to Wanderlei Silva, who has lost 5 of his last 7 fights, and I have no idea what possible reason you could have for Silva over Filho. Truthfully, after going back on researching this post, I feel like Filho is now underrated in my top 25.

Wanderlei Silva's last 7 opponents ranked worst to best:Keith Jardine, Michael Bisping, Chuck Liddell, Quentin Rampage Jackson,Rich Franklin, Dan Henderson and Mirko Cro Cop. I don't know about you but I don't think anyone should be embarrassed to be 2-5 in their last 7 fights if those where the 7 guys they fought. If Filho's last 7 were against a lineup that stacked how well would he have done.

Hell, according to your own list, amongst Filho's last 7 opponents only Chael Sonnen is ranked in the top 25 in either the middleweight or light heavyweight division. All but two of Wandelei's last 7 are ranked in the top 25 at middleweight or light heavyweight. Mirko is actually ranked in the heavyweight top 25 ( ) while Keith Jardine actually should barely make the top 25 considering he's only lost to top competition while Luis Cane just got KO'ed by Cyrile Diabante (not in your top 25) within 2 minutes of the first round.

And that's just considering their last 7 because I really want to be fair. If you look at Wanderlei's entire resume (fair considering you looked at Filho's entire resume) you would see names like Guy Metzger, Dan Henderson, Quentin Rampage Jackson 2x, Kazaushi Sakuraba 3x, Hidehiko Yoshida, Richardo Arona. Also interesting to note that Silva also beat 2 guys Filho beat (Yuki Kondo and Minowaman). They both combined to last roughly 4 minutes with Silva whereas both Kondo and Minowaman took Filho to decision.

I understand the idea of quality opponents, but 20-1-1 fighting good fighters has to rate ahead of a guy who is 2-5 in his last 7. The fact that Wandy is where he is despite those loses takes into account the strength of opponent and also what he has done over his career.

Also, while entire resume matters some, what you do lately and more importantly, what you do at Middleweight matters more.

If you let guys coast on what they did 8 years ago, Chuck Liddell would still be a top 5 LHW, because he has only lost to very good fighters and had huge wins. But, that is not the way it works. If Wandy keeps fighting better opponents and actually strings some wins together, then he will rise. But, the fact of the matter is, while he has fought some great guys, most of the guys rated around him would do just as well if not better against those same opponents.

You can't criticize me for letting guys coast over the last 8 years when you are talking up Filho's entire 10 year career. The fact remains that the last 7 guys Wanderlei fought were at least very good if not amazing. In Filho's last 7 he fought a top middleweight 2x (Chael Sonnen), 2 pretty middleweights (Denis Kang and Melvin Manhoef, a guy with a whopping 6-3-4 record (Tatsuhiko Nishizaka), a guy with a medicore 14-9 record (Alex Schoenauer) and a guy making his debut (Daniel Gabriel). Wins should certainly count but it isn't as if he looked like a world beater in these fights against lesser guys. Wanderlei was at least competitive with most of the guys who faced in his last 7 and almost all of those guys are light years ahead of Filho's comp.
