The more I think about this offer, the more I wonder if there was a hidden motivation.
Any possibility Zuffa actually believes Aldo could capture the 155 title after 2-3 fights? I bet the prospect of having Aldo as their LW champ is a lot more appealing than a guy like Maynard, or even Edgar.

It makes sense to me. They were expecting Penn to take the title back and when he didn't it radically changed the title landscape. Edgar and Maynard is a fight that no one's excited about, besides rabid supporters of each fighter.
