I don't see him beating Jacare, Tim Kennedy, Mayhem, or even Matt Lindland.

This is all courtesy of Anderson Silva pushkicking his knees. Cote hasn't been the same since that injury.

Not surprised by Cote, but a little with Gonzaga. Cote will prob be back when they have events in Canada like they do with McDonald.

Finacial reason for both I guess - neither are performing, but getting paid like co-eventers (both former title shots so can understand).

It sucks as both give a little bit more depth, but when your getting the cash they do for losing on undercard ... its not brillaint for the UFC - both clearly had "this is your chance to work your way back" fights and didnt get it done.

If SF doesnt take them I do expect to see them back in the UFC in about a year after they've won a couple of easy fights and the UFC can re-negotiate them onto a lower salary.

Going to SF might tank Cote's hopes of being brought back for Montreal or TO events. He could well stick with MFC. MacDonald's there and also at 185.

Sucks that the UFC can still hold sway over a guy after cutting his contract. Hell yeah for monopolies.

I know you gotta give way to the young up and comers but I dont like seeing guys who always put on shows cut. Jason McDonald was one of the most entertaining fighters when he was around and a healthy Cote was always down to thump.

I like Gonzaga too, hardee.

Dude is talented as anyone but unfortunately for him dumb as anyone as well. This last fight the first in his career to go to decision...

Though has to be said there has been a few "big name" cuts recently by the UFC, well over the past 8 months or so, and I am starting to get that feeling of "trimming the fat" rather than just performance based cuts.

I wonder if they have something lined up? Maybe anticipating a few big contracts having to be signed in the next year or two (the likes of shogun, cain and a couple of others might have to be put on those 300k base fight contracts for example).

I do think we see a few "falling stars" getting cut as the events roll on into 2011.

For sure Gonzaga was tight when he came to fight, if your going to cut him then you might aswell cut Crocop and Kongo. I'd rather see Gonzaga than those 2 one dimensional cats.

CroCop still has a contract so they're not going to cut him... yet. Congo is 4-2-1 over his last 7 only losing to Velasquez and Mir, so he's not going anywhere for now.

Gonzaga is a tough one. We can now look back at his biggest win over CroCop and safely say that beating him wasn't the big deal it seemed at the time but at the same time, losing to Carwin and Dos Santos were tougher fights than the first seemed.

But he's 3-5 since the CroCop win, and that was 3 1/2 years ago. And he hasn't beaten anybody else of note his entire career so it's hard to still argue that he's a contender in a division that continues to get deeper.
