The other side can't prove that he is trying to finish fights, definitively, but they can prove that it sure looks like he's trying to finish fights, hence the sub attempts on Hardy and the killshot gifs against Kos (that he took like a champ). When someone posts gifs of GSP throwing everything he has into some punches, you snap back about how it's only four times (though it was much more than that... 32 power strikes landed and nearly 30% of his landed strikes were power strikes, according to FIghtMetric).

I mean, how can you not see that he's *trying* to finish fights when his opponents all have the tar beaten out of them. It sounds like you're a little ticked that his fights aren't as competitive as some fights other P4P fighters have and instead of praising Hardy's sub defense or Kos' heart and conditioning or acknowledging injury in the Alves fight, you condemn the other guy for not finishing these supposed cans. Just so you know, Alves/Hardy/Kos have been finished ten times in 76 fights. Hardy hadn't been finished in five years, Alves in three and a half. No one's finishing these guys, but GSP is deeeeestroying them.

Exactly.

But it doesn't matter what proof you do bring up, it'll be brushed off as irrelevant. We're all wasting our times trying to prove what won't be acknowledged.

That is because you guys are busy arguing points I am not making. Of course those guys aren't stopped often, they also do not lose often. I'm not saying he needed to finish all of them. I am saying that when you watch him fight, it is crystal clear that he is risk averse and not trying to finish anyone.

GSP goes in there to grind out 5 round decisions and never put himself in harms way or take chances. For the best fighter possibly ever who keeps telling everyone who will listen that he wants to finish fights, it is very clear that is just talk. Whether it is a fear of being Serra-ed again or just another Greg Jackson risk averse strategy is up for debate.

I don't hate the guy for it. I don't hate the guy period. I made one comment about it in my post and sinse then GSP nuthuggers have been lining up to defend the guy with all kinds of points that have no real relivance to what I am saying. If GSP wants to grind out decisions until the end of time, I will keep watching. But, don't get your panties in a wad when people talk about it.

And for the love of god, stop telling me how badly he destroyed Kor or Alves or whoever. I'm not (Please Use More Appropriate Word), the guy has been #1 on my P4P list for like 8 months. I am full aware how good he is.

I don't even understand the argument here.

GSP says every press conference that he isn't going to play his opponent's game, that he isn't going to take risks, and that he sticks to his gameplan.

He also says every press conference that he wants to finish his opponent, that is his ultimate goal, and if he doesn't then he isn't happy.

Bottom line IMO is that he wants to and tries to finish as long as he doesn't have to stray from his gameplan or take risks. Its just a compromise. Some people have problems with this strategy, some don't.

Did you even watch the fight? Do you honestly believe GSP only threw 4 power punches? If that is the case, then yes, irrevocably yes, you are at least acting like a simpleton.

Even though it should have been blatantly obvious to anyone who watched the fight that GSP threw a good number of power shots, let me give you some stats. According to fightmetric, of the 249 total standing strikes thrown by GSP, 73 of those were power shots. That's about 30% of all strikes thrown, or more then 1 in every 4 strikes.

And this somehow leads you to an opinion that he wasn't trying to finish the fight? Don't you see how ridiculous that is?
