Jones Injured. Phil Davis to step in against Rashad Evans.

Post#1 » by Gold Chain » Mon Apr 25, 2011 5:06 pm

Multiple sources saying Jon Jones injured and Phil Davis to step in against Rashad Evans.

MMAjunkieJohn‎: Just verified Jon Jones is out of fight with Rashad Evans due to hand injury. Phil Davis targeted as replacement. @CdnPress_MMA with scoop.

Interesting. I like this fight as a replacement though. It's going to shake up things for sure... Who gets the next title shot? Forrest?

I think Phil Davis has a chance in this one, but this has got be the toughest opponent of his career so far, no?

Sucks it will be a while until we see Bones back.

He annoys me to no end sometimes, but his talent is insane.

if Rashad wins he obviously should get the title shot. If Davis wins you could argue the same.

Rashad gets a stay of execution. I think he stuffs takedowns, keeps the fight standing, and works Mr. Wonderful with his superior striking game. It would have been the opposite in the fight with Jones.

Agree with all points. Stay of execution, TD defense, Phil has subpar striking.

I'm pretty sure I don't like you in general. You're some verbose blowhard, aren't you?

Agreed.

Dissapointing news though. The buildup was already pretty intense for a Jones fight. I would think the winner either way would get the next title shot.

Don't really like this.

Davis isn't ready for this level of competition yet. They should have broken up the Franklin-Lil Nog fight and made Franklin/Rashad, or just done Rashad/Machida II.

I think the worst part is that Davis might actually win, and then get put into a fight with Jones. Jones wrecks him, and then we might not see them fight again. If Davis had continued to progress slowly, in a year or two, he might have been a legit challenge to Jones.

Why not Rashad/Forrest 2 and Franklin/Davis ?

Forrest is fighting Shogun in Rio, and I don't think that's a fight that should be broken up for this.

This sucks. Jones is the most interesting fighter in MMA right now and this was the fight I was most looking forward to. Rashad is too good and too well rounded for Davis IMO. He will keep it standing and dominate the striking.

Too bad, I'm a huge fan of Davis and don't much like Rashad.

Unfortunately I don't think Davis has it for Rashad at this point in time.

So, I'm the only guy thinking Davis wins this?

So be it.

I think Mr. Wonderful upsets Evans.

I'll go with Davis too. I just want to see Rashad get knocked out again because of the funny KO faces he makes.

I could see him winning...Rashad's wrestling isn't that good; it's more that he's gotten the most out of it in his MMA game.

I'm more worried about what happens if Davis wins. I wanted to see Davis fight Jones in like 2 years, not November.

Davis has such good defensive wrestling that I'm not sure Rashad could get and keep him on the ground regardless.

Unfortunately for him though, that's not what Rashad wants to do, and I'm not sure Davis has the ability to get and keep Rashad on his back.

Why wouldn't Rampage be in the title picture as well. Especially after he beats Hammil.
