Decent event, but not much to take from it other than Rory MacDonald's skyrocket to stardom continues.

And I thought people were overreacting to Hallman's wardrobe choice, because it was hilarious, until I found out he had a malfunction. That's no laughing matter for viewers, and especially not his opponent. It's all fun until someone loses a ball.

That was a strange fight. Akiyama seemed to get dropped by a complete phantom punch and then he ate about 3 solid shots to the back of the head that the ref just watched happen. And then everyone seemed to act like Vitor looked like the second coming of Mike Tyson.

I watched it again and I still don't know what dropped Akiyama. The punches to the back of the head are what knocked him out though.

I haven't had a chance to re-watch, but people say if you watch the top camera you see Akiyama get clipped in the temple. What do people think about the back of the head accusations?

It's tough because as a fighter you need to capitalize on those situations to end the fight, but their position makes it very difficult to do so. It's not like they are purposely striking the back of the head, they are running on instinct. If you wait for an opening, you basically negate the damage you did, and risk losing the momentum that you had.

It's the same beef that people have with the Fedor/Henderson fight.

Apparently Matt Hamill is retiring. Bloodyelbow.com has an article about it. Seems kind of extreme.

Well, he is 34. Started his career late and can't beat top-tier talent. If he has financial security, it's not a bad decision, really.

I'm guessing that he has been thinking about hanging it up for a while, and the most recent loss gave him the incentive to take action.

Do you remember how depressed/affected he was the time he got his bell rung by some spiteful fighter (can't recall who) during sparring on tuf? He literally was bedridden for what seemed like a significant amount of time.

I think dude just has a hard head, and it probably isn't worth it to him to go through the ko/tkko's.

Also, I have brought this up before, but think it is relevant once again now: everyone is so quick to say that fighters who do not cut 25 pounds of weight need to move down a weight class. I think Rashad is a great counterargument to this. Despite not being the biggest lhw, his speed advantage at 205 is one of the reasons he is so successful imo.

Definitely, plus spending time fighting decent comp at HW before settling at 205. At 185 he loses the advantage.
