Was hamstring. Browne all class from what I've seen on the presser. Full credit to Bigfoot, no excuses from him.

He's pressured into saying that by the machismo laden MMA community.

The macho community caused him to forgo excuse making? Wish that'd work on guys like Rampage/Nog. :)

Otherwise known as Reverse Tito Ortiz syndrome. I hear he found out he had a brain tumour before his last fight and was given 16 minutes to live.

Bernman wrote:There's no way of knowing the way that was playing out. No significant advantage was gained, and as we saw tonight that can change quickly and drastically.

This is true, but

You likely wouldn't have seen what I was referring to. He was trying to fight like a giant Anderson Silva, it looked ridiculous and Silva was having none of it. I wanted Browne to win but he looked off his game even before the injury.

You can find a middle ground where you tell the truth and have perspective. You can't ask anymore from a person than that. If he had a major injury effecting his movement and thus performance, like was OBVIOUSLY the case, feel free to point that out. If you stubbed your toe on the ground that's another story. Then you're just looking to not admit you were beaten. There are excuses and then there are REASONS. There is an important distinction there. They often get thrown into the same basket.

If you went by the first few minutes of fights, Chael would be twice MW champion over Anderson Silva, and tonight Simpson beats Pierce, Castillo beats Johnson, Harris beats Uyenoyama, etc.

His movement was off but he got caught with his hands at his waist, not a good idea when a 280 pound man is throwing bombs at your face. Anyway, I think Travis just realized he didn't have anything to gain by going in there and talking about his injury. He vowed to come back better, and I believe him.

Anyway, the Jackson camp is doing enough excuse making for him. Claiming it all happened on the first kick. That CLEARLY wasn't the case, as his movement was fine for the first 3 minutes and he threw several kicks/fancy footwork after the first one that allegedly gave him the injury.

He threw a jumping front scissor kick after the initial spinning back kick thing. There's no way he could've done that on a busted leg.

That's gotta be a scary feeling to see Bigfoot Silva throwing a super overhand haymaker directly at your face. I also feel like Bigfoot Silva shouldn't be able to land a super overhand haymaker. Bad play by Browne knee injury or not.

Browne vs Big Foot is a FB prelim fight, at best. Someone's gonna get hurt and maybe please the crowd, but neither guy is very good. Browne's background is...basketball?? GTFO.

I think Formiga or whatever his name was just didn't have the necessary heart...that left didn't hit very clean at all...barely even impacted, he just wasn't prepared for that kind of follow-up on the ground...and he turtled. Can DJ go 5 rounds without getting caught? Cos for him to win, he's got to go 25...25 with a one-strike KO artist.

How does Dobson even have 5 losses? The guy's so talented.

I hadn't really been excited for the card because of the headlining fight but the #2 and #3 fights were certainly relevant and featured explosive dudes. But they each sort of disappointed.

Michael Johnson certainly looked good. I can't believe he survived the initial KD. It looked like it would be a quick win for whatshisface. But good sub defense, serious toughness, and a vicious boxing KO of a damn good boxer.

The undercard...

Man, that Uemyana guy was really kind & considerate after the sub. Let the guy revive himself and then eased out of the position...so often you see them just shove the poor unconscious dude aside. I like it.

I'd ignore the politics and the "Girls, Girls, Girls" walk-out music and the 'win ugly' style and the smugness if Volkmann didn't - at the end of the day - still end up waxing his back. Mass culture still rules the him.

No link for this, so take it for what it is. But was listening to the sherdog post fight podcast and Jordan Breen was saying that someone posted on facebook that they were happy that Stephens was finally arrested for "nearly beating his brother to death" or something similar.

That's at odds with the statement made from Stephens' camp:

In response to the recent arrest and allegations regarding Jeremy Stephens we would like to take this opportunity to reach out to his supporters and clarify some of the information that has been circulating in the media.

In 2011, Jeremy was attending a homecoming party in Des Moines, Iowa. A person in attendance became intoxicated and disorderly, and was asked to leave by the owner of the establishment. The intoxicated individual subsequently became involved in a physical altercation with another person at the event. We have learned that, as the featured guest at the party, Jeremy's name came up during the police investigation of the assault.

Prior to being detained the morning of October 5, 2012, in Minneapolis, Jeremy had never been arrested in connection with the assault, contacted about any possible charge and or notified about any outstanding warrant by mail or any other means. Jeremy has lived at the same residence in San Diego and has maintained the same phone number for the past year or more. Jeremy also uses social media to provide updates on his training, and to thank fans, supporters, sponsors, and the UFC. In short, Jeremy is not a hard guy to find, which can be seen at http://www.LilHeathenMMA.com.

At this time, we do not know why Polk County (Iowa) authorities waited to have a warrant served on Jeremy until the morning of his fight. He arrived in Minnesota four days earlier, stayed at the hotel with other fighters for the event, and attended the public weigh-in on Thursday afternoon. Because he was arrested so close to the time of the fight, arrangements for his release could not be made in time for him to compete despite the diligent efforts of the UFC. Minnesota state officials were great to deal with, but Polk County kept changing the deal making it impossible to get Jeremy released.

It will take some time for this unfortunate situation to be resolved. We ask that everyone be patient and wait for the truth to come out. We also would like to thank Jeremy's fans who are standing by him during this tough time and especially Dana White and the staff at UFC for their incredible display of support for Jeremy throughout the ordeal.

There is nothing to hide, so we will keep everyone updated as things progress.

You never know until the truth comes out, obviously, but Dana didn't seem quite so optimistic at the ufc presser. His story was more in line with what Breen was saying. Besides talking about how they kept raising and raising the bail costs, he also made comments about how much the Iowa police wanted Stephens, and how JS "may spend a few years in Iowa after tonight" (paraphrasing here, going from memory, sorry if that isn't exact). You'd have to think Dana was privy to some things to be saying stuff like that to the press.

Jeremy Stephens and a co-conspirator beat a victim for about one minute, causing him to lose consciousness once, to stop breathing twice and sending him to the hospital in critical condition, Des Moines police allege in new details emerging from Stephens' felony case.

...

Stephens and the victim were among a group of people at Fat Tony's Sports Tap when the incident began. According to the report, the victim had been asked to leave the bar and was in the parking lot with his wife when Stephens and another man, Dustin James Bachman, emerged.

The victim's wife says that at that point, Stephens punched him, and Bachman followed. She then helped her husband to the car and was attempting to lock the doors when Bachman pulled him out.

At that point, Stephens and Bachman allegedly punched and kicked him in the head and body for about a minute.

The report does not mention if the victim made a full recovery.
