Bendo by decision, Pettis by late TKO. With Frankie gone, I think Bendo/Pettis are clear #1/#2 in the division with a drop off after that.

It sucks that Edgar is probably/possibly still the number one lightweight in the world. I'm not even really a huge fan, but man, what a warrior.

Dude's going to win this Saturday, defend the title once, then drop to 135, win the belt, defend the title once, and then retire. So, in effect, he'll kick BJ Penn's ass three times.

IMHO Maynard's 3 fights against Frankie were just as impressive as Bendo's 2 fights against Frankie. I think that Maynard has the tools to give Bendo, Pettis, and everyone else in the division trouble. From a rankings standpoint I can understand there being a dropoff, but not a talent or matchup standpoint.

How do you guys see Maynard/Bendo, Maynard/Pettis, and Maynard/Melendez going?

I'd favor Bendo over Maynard, I'd favor Pettis over Maynard in 5 but 3 may be tricky, and I'd favor Maynard over Melendez.

I do think that Maynard would give Bendo a look unlike anything he's seen before though.

Instead of waiting, I'd really like to see Showtime ask UFC for the same offer Eddie Alvarez got before an injunction denied to opportunity to make a reasonably projected 1.5-2 million to fight in the co-main event slot at UFC 159: Jones/Sonnen. That would be a pretty big pay day for a guy still making 10/10 in base as far as I know, and he could contend he's arguably UFC's #2 right now, and Alvarez was Bellator's #2. Alvarez was also going to get 75/75 in base + a 250K signing bonus. If they aren't going to rip up Pettis' crappy old contract, or give him the title shot straight away they promised him a few times, at least he could get that PPV bonus opportunity offered to another lesser fighter whose ass he would kick. Bendo complained about Eddie's deal and got a huge raise. I would think Pettis would have leverage now after putting on that performance in front of over 4 million on Fox and the big boss admitting that everybody should be sold on his fighting ability.

I think Eddie was supposed to face Jim Miller. That's a guy who talked mad crap about Pettis upon his arrival to the UFC. He'd be able to get sweet revenge as a bonus, or if he did somehow lose, then he wasn't ready anyways.

I think this is the correct next step in his career and hopefully his boneheaded manager actually makes the right decision for once.

Could we contain analysis of Pettis/RufousSport minutiae to a stickied thread? I'm serious.

I don't see the issue. People are talking about a fighter in a thread about a card that he was the highlight of. Its not like we are talking about Duke Rufus' man boobs in the bellator thread or something. Not sure if its shtick here, or just a need to whine, but this happens all the time. About once every two months we all derail into a Fedor discussion, we do the same thing with Nick Diaz, and to a lesser extent guys like BJ Penn.

Considering what he did to Cerrone, if Pettis kicked his dog I bet it exploded.

Am I reading this right? #2 what? Contender at LW? Or Pettis is to the UFC what Alvarez was to Bellator?

I would like to see him fight Nate Diaz...

Although that fight doesn't make sense rankings wise right now, it would be a sick fight. It would be like an unstoppable force meeting a immovable object. Could Pettis' head shots KO Diaz's Iron chin? Could Pettis' body shots tire a fighter with unlimited cardio? Could Diaz outstrike Pettis?

Insane fight. We'll probably get to see it one day.

Also, are people really complaining about us talking about Pettis too much? The man-love is a little bit too much, but people on this board drool over any fighter when he has an amazing performance, and the analysis of all the great match-ups at LW is very intriguing.

The dog probably would be more impressed with the kick than Cowboyronnie.
