I finally got the chance to check this card out...

I am with the crowd that Hendo Shogun was a draw. I do not see a 10-8 round from Hendo in the third or anywhere else. A draw would have been an injustice considering the epicness of the match, but the right call imo.

And I thought the stoppage on Cung Wandy was good. He hit Cung with what, 6-7-8 solid knees and a couple punches?? Yea cung had his hands loosely on wanderlei's leg, and wandy was hitting the back of his head (When doesn't that happen when you drop a guy? They often fall face first and get blasted on the back of the head) but I thought you could have stopped it prior to Cung even falling down. After all those knees, when that last one dropped him against the cage, I think you could have stepped in right there...

But yes, please hang them up Wandy. Wow, it was good to see some vintage there, but as CPT said, at times, it looked like a light breeze would blow you over...

Wand always makes me so nervous when he fights.

When he rushes in like a mad man I think he's getting ktfo. Then at times he will try to counter (actually pretty effectively) but ends up taking strikes that way too and with such a shot chin just always expecting him to go down.

it is. in the middle of Shogun's beat down in the 3rd round, in my mind I was "Please stay down Shogun, PLEASE."

helluva fight. Rua was all heart in that fight but Hendo killed him in the first 3 so his come back was almost pointless for the score cards.

Someone on one of the post-event review shows summed up the Wandy experience pretty well.

When that "Sandstorm" entrance music used to hit, you were like "**** yeah, it's time for some action, this is going to be good." Now when you hear it, you just think "oh man, another Wanderlei Silva fight...I hope he doesn't die."

Since I doubt he's going out on that win, who could he possibly fight next? I think a retirement fight in either Japan or Brazil would be fitting, but again, there's a real lack of appropriate opponents.

Most guys with a name are too dangerous (and I don't mean just as an opponent, I mean dangerous for Wandy's long-term health), and most guys without much of a name would look like too much of a step down. Like Wanderlei Silva vs. god damn Nick Ring or someone like that...looks ridiculous. Court McGee won TUF at least, so that might not be so bad. Mayhem could actually make some sense...he would beat Silva, but I don't think he'd do too much damage to his quality of life. Would have been a great fight for Japan too. I was also thinking about Minowaman (seriously), but then I remembered he probably fought him like 6 times in Pride.

Another point that should be made about the Silva/Le fight....what the **** would have happened if Belfort hadn't gotten hurt? Would Le be awake yet?

That's why I don't understand why people were so excited for the Belfit/Le match.

To be fair, Le looked way worse than expected.

If he had come out in decent shape...it still would have been a massacre.

I've always felt Le was slightly overrated simply because he's fairly one-dimensional with his striking. In a pure kickboxing match he will dominate because there's that assumed distance fighters give each other. But in MMA if someone pressures forward there is less he can do to stop that as we saw with Wanderlei. I'm probably not giving his wrestling enough credit but Le's best option was negated in the second round and there was little he could do besides pepper Wanderlei with strikes here or there.

I just couldn't (didn't want to?) believe Le would defeat Wanderlei.

Less than two years ago Wand was defeating Michael Bisping who is a fight-ish away from a title shot. A similar amount of time ago Cung Le was getting KTFO by Scott Smith. lmao.

Not to say that it was obvious or an easy pick, but IDK how Wand was an underdog on the books.

Well that was crazy, yeah. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but I did feel like that was an easy pick.

This was about as close as the UFC gets to a freak show fight, and the matchup looked good on paper (once it was changed to Silva). It played out fairly well, though was a bit sloppier and sadder than most people would have predicted.

I think freakshow is harsh just because of that dynamic you were talking about with Wand earlier. Its hard to find him opponents. Don't want to put him in their to get embarrassed, but don't want to put him with a no name up and comer either.

Plus it doesn't even come close to close to touching the Toney fight on the freakshow scale. :)

Haha, true.

I saw that the UFC paid Cung Le $420,000 for that fight. $350k base plus $70k fight of the night bonus (Dana must have been in a **** great mood after Hendo/Shogun).

Must have really needed the help at the gate.

You give someone like Cung (whom you're tempting away from movies) a huge base salary he might just show-up fat and uninterested.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I doubt Le returns to the UFC. He really got beat up and he's a hefty price to keep. Maybe if they go to San Jose again in the next two years.

i watched Story vs Kapman again on Fuel TV.

2 Things

1.) Story definitely should have won the fight, he landed heavier shots and seemed like he landed more. Kapman basically layed and prayed in the 2nd round.

2.) i didn't realize how much Joe Rogan Blows certain fighters. i don't think he hates that story had little technique and just swung for the fences moving forward.

Also, if Faber fought like that every fight, he'd beat Aldo. Such explosiveness and power. Too bad he doesn't
