He has a chance, but he'd be a significant underdog. Much better than 10 to 1 which is about what Sonnen and Belfort were though.

Fight Matrix said that Silva was at 213 with 19% body fat. In comparison GSP is 190 with 7.7% body fat.

Thanks, sounds right. I wonder what Jones is at 230 (or is it 235 now?). My guess is that, in fight shape, Bones dwarfs the Spider.

Silva sort of balloons between camps where his diet isn't on point, etc and his body fat goes up. Whereas Jones is still pretty lean at 230-235. When Silva is in good shape he doesn't seem to be much over 205ish. This is also what people imo fail to realize when they say Silva is so much bigger than GSP (he's definitely longer and bigger). GSP walks at 190 but is always in freakish good shape whereas Silva again doesn't stay in fight shape all the time like the latter two pretty much do. With both in top shape their weights may only be 10-15 pounds apart as opposed to the 20-30 pound difference on paper.

People using Silva being a fat bastard when he's not preparing for a fight as evidence that he's some huge middleweight has always **** me.

Silva came in for his fight against Bonner at 202lbs. and would be at a significant size disadvantage.

I agree with those who say Jones would win, but it's the superfight I would want to see. Silva/GSP isn't nearly as intriguing. There's no one in the LHW division that can hold a candle to Jones and Silva is the only fighter that is left.

I still enjoying listening to Ed Soares' excuses. Any time anyone asks him about a potential match with Jones he automatically brings up GSP as an alternative and stresses their similarities in size etc. Funny because not too long ago he actually scoffed at the idea that such a fight was even possible given the huge difference in size.

And I got a good chuckle out of him saying they had nothing to gain by fighting Weidman while simultaneously listing Cung Le, Rockhold, and Rich Franklin Part III as potential fights. I also wonder what they had to "gain" by fighting Bonnar

Soares is a little weasel.

I don't think Anderson's scared or anything like that... just don't see it. Anderson's hemming and hawwing has always been about money.

Soares IS a weasel though, but he's got the golden goose and he has to be one.

I understand that a lot of these guys, managers promoters etc...basically have to lie as part of their job.

But I still maintain that it is possible to exaggerate and even lie a little without insulting the intelligence of the fans.

Soares can try to campaign for the GSP fight or hell even avoid the Jones fight if he wants...but he can do that without pretending like he actually thinks a 3rd fight with Rich Franklin's corpse makes sense to him. Same with Dana with like 75% of everything he says.

He's trolling Zuffa for a reaction when he says stuff like that.

On the flipside, money could be one reason why he's fighting dudes like Bonnar. I doubt he actually wanted a part of the company for fighting Jones, but it would not be surprising if this is just a really long standoff between a cheap SOB and a greedy one. Honestly, it probably goes back to the Leites/Maia/Cote days.

Just too much size difference.

I agree. The size difference is a big and Silva will have a slim chance of knocking him out before JBJ chokes him out
