Is there anything he could have possibly said at all that wouldn't had led you to claim he was making excuses?
Saying he didn't get up mentally, saying he was weak in the cage, and saying he had bad timing are him taking the blame for the loss. A lot of the Sergio stuff, etc. were questions Ariel was asking him.
I'm just not sure what you expect, him to get up there and talk about how amazing his performance was and how great he felt out there? His comments are pretty cookie cutter and you could hear them from any fighter after any loss. Seriously.
