"He got knocked out, I had to watch that and get up mentally for my fight. Not making excuses or nothing, but them little things could have triggered my performance."

"I had a really crappy performance," he said. "I don't know what happened. My timing was off. I didn't have any strength out there. I felt weak. And it was just like something went wrong, so I gotta figure it out and we gotta fix it. I never felt that weak in a fight and it was the wrong night to feel like that."

If this guy juggles any more excuses he's going to end up in the circus

Is there anything he could have possibly said at all that wouldn't had led you to claim he was making excuses?

Saying he didn't get up mentally, saying he was weak in the cage, and saying he had bad timing are him taking the blame for the loss. A lot of the Sergio stuff, etc. were questions Ariel was asking him.

I'm just not sure what you expect, him to get up there and talk about how amazing his performance was and how great he felt out there? His comments are pretty cookie cutter and you could hear them from any fighter after any loss. Seriously.

Pettis with more excuses:

"He caught me with that big left," Pettis said. "The first punch he hit me with, I couldn't see. I had triple vision. It was a great punch. He got me right in the eyeball.

"There were a lot of things that factored into that performance. I mean, having one eye doesn't stop the fact that I didn't stop any of his takedowns. It didn't stop the fact of me taking the wrong angles."

What a nonstory.

They're all excuses. It's not Tito tier of course, it's just everything but "he was better than me". Even the moment of humility there was prefaced by a reminder of the injury he suffered to his eye.

Do yourself a favor and listen to the interview instead of just reading handpicked quotes. He was very humble imo. One point Ariel asks is it true you broke your orbital and Pettis says no Dos Anjos broke my orbital. Ariel gives him several opportunities to make excuses and he never takes it. Ariel asks him is he as shocked as everyone else that RDA is champion and Pettis says no not at all and compliments how good RDA is in general. Pettis says he wants this fight back because RDA is the only guy to ever beat him up in his career.

No fighter (unless they are retiring and have no more champion aspirations) is going to get up there and say "I fought to my full potential and he is just better than me". Even when guys do that, they jsut say "he was better tonight". Yea its rationalizing but you have to believe you are the best to be the best. To this day I promise you that Cormier thinks he is better than Bones, Barao thinks he is better than Dillashaw, etc.

Also, if you think those excuses are bad, don't listen to any Brazilian talk ever. :D

edit: Ha this is funny, as I get to the end of the podcast, Ariel and his co-host Ric are talking about how awesome Pettis is for not making any excuses and how good his attitude is after everything.

Hm so I'm reading now that Roy broke his hand in the very first round vs. Reem. Could easily explain why he shot for takedowns instead of throwing punches when he rocked Reem a time or two.

So for anyone still thinking Reem is good, well he is, but he is still way too susceptible to being flash dropped for my liking. My guess is he ends up in an unconscious ball like the majority of his other ufc fights if Roy hadn't broken his hand.

Hm good point. If Roy can't still crack that swollen melon of a head with a broken hand, I don't think he has what it takes to be a pro mma fighter. :D

Roy once had a pleasant conversation with Josh Copeland who was knocked out in the undercard. It's a minor miracle he found the courage to even fight after that.

Also Roy and Copeland were more likely to share a meal at an all you can eat buffet than have a pleasant word. Fasho.

Someone on twitter during the event said he looked like someone you could find in the deepest, darkest Kentucky hollow.

Now as a Tennessean I was indignant about it, but as someone who doesn't really get offended I thought it was absolutely hilarious and totally agreed.
