DOH! Your Predictions Gone Wrong

Post#1 » by REDDzone » Tue Jun 16, 2015 3:55 pm

Looking back at Saturday night and how wrong I was about Cain/Werdum, I thought it would be fun and interesting to take a look back and kind of laugh at ourselves and what we have been wrong about in the past regarding mma. It could be about individual fights, career trajectories, whatever.

I have a few off the top of my head, but will definitely add more as we go:

I said Cain would "smash" Werdum and basically cement himself as possibly the best HW ever.

I thought Michael Chandler was the best LW in the world at one point, he has lost every fight since that claim I think.

I thought BJ Penn was going to take his title back by laying a beating on Edgar in their second fight, and would then continue his reign as the greatest lw ever.

I thought Brock was going to beat up Overeem and make him quit like it was Pride, I was also picking Brock when he was scheduled to fight JDS and that fight may been even uglier for Brock in hindsight.

I also was high on Chandler. Thought Wineland and Cub Swanson were top 3 in their respective divisions.

I picked Overeem to beat Brock, no problem. But I then thought Overeem would starch the rest of the division thereafter.

I bet on five separate fights a few months back in the Machida-Rockhold event, got each one wrong.

Was sure if Shannon Ritch kept at it, he'd be LHW champ by now.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I picked GSP to beat Serra.

The pick I probably most regret after the fact was picking Leben over Brunson.

I think I thought Shogun was going to beat Bones.

I thought Sotiropolous was good.

I've picked Machida in literally every fight he's ever fought, which means I've been batting .500 the last 5 years. BTW, Machida will beat Romero. :D

Esparza over Jedrzejczyk was the most spectacularly wrong I've been lately.

When the ufc first brought in the women fighters I said that both Tate and Carmouche would be exposed as not good.

Carmouche hasn't been good, but Tate has solidified herself as the second best fighter in the division and would most likely be champ if not for Ronda.

I remember feeling sorry for the guy that was about to face Vitor Belfort at UFC 15

Some random dude I had never heard of before named Randy Couture

I thought Kimbo Slice was going to transition into legit MMA fighter, at least a title contender at the UFC level.

I predicted for their first two fights, that BJ would beat and finish Edgar. UFC 112 & 118.

I had Edgar over Penn the second time all day, so I got that one right.

KJ Noons would beat Diaz for real in their second fight, that didn't happen and was a stupid prediction in hindsight.

I am never wrong. About anything. Ever.

When he first came to the UFC, I think I predicted that Hatsu Hioki was the guy with the best shot at dethroning Jose Aldo.

I didn't think much of Luke Rockhold til his last fight. Might have even picked Bisping to beat him.

I thought Penn beat Frankie the first time, or at the very least it was a draw, so I was confident he'd make the necessary adjustments to win convincingly in the rematch. I knew I was wrong on that one as soon as Penn stepped into the cage.

Similarly, I thought it was kind of flukey the way Faber lost to Brown and that he'd win the rematch. He broke both hands, though, so I don't feel too bad about that prediction.

I wasn't sold on Cain after his fight with Kongo, despite the fact that it was a fairly dominant win. Then it was announced he'd fight Carwin and I thought he'd lose for sure. They never actually fought, but in hindsight I would favor Cain.

I remember being really high on Efrain Escudero after TUF. I thought he'd be a future contender at LW.

I'm sure there are better (worse) ones, but I can't think of any right now.

I thought Travis Browne would starch Werdum and Arlovski

Was shocked Diego Sanchez beat Gomi, or anyone else for that matter

Kampmann losing to Jake Shields certainly surprised me

Cote losing to Cung Le.

I'm sure there's 1 or 2 or 500 more...

Man, Hioki has had a tough run. Lots of bad decisions (imo) and tough matchups. He obviously isn't the cream of the crop, but he is a good fighter. I hope they let him stick around.

Lol nice, these wrong fight predictions are good/funny, but this is one of the posts that is more in the spirit of this thread. Guys you thought would be great but busted, guys you thought would bust who were great, etc.

I thought the guy who won tuf the year Michael Johnson was on it was good. The fact that I can't remember his name right now says everything that needs to be said about that.

Yeah, he's a super talented guy who just can't seem to catch a break.
