Obviously being well rounded is going to help you win fights. But I like the grapplers who are unapologetic for their grappling. Sure fighters need to train everything but nothing wrong with trying plan A first (and second, and third...) if it's working for you. I mean you don't often see strikers going "I'm the far better striker in this matchup but I'm going to take this to the ground and prove I can BJJ."

Yeah, I'm generally more interested in guys who are amazing at something and I just hope that they can bring the other facets of their game up to a point where they can use their A+ tools. Generic dudes who are good at MMA don't really interest me all that much. I'm now trying to reconcile this statement with guys like Lauzon and Miller, who aren't that high in the rankings, but to me are **** awesome at various aspects of MMA. Dunno.

On an unrelated note, any usage of let me bang bro, like Redd's statement that someone bangs with too many bros, **** kills me.

Lol I actually watched that Let me bang bro clip a few months back. Someone had posted it on the UG or something. It was everything I remembered it to be and more.

I think Conor fights Eddie next in which case I'd like to see Holloway get his shot at Aldo, he deserves it. I agree that any talk (not on this board) of Pettis getting a title fight are misguided, he just doesn't deserve it at this point. Not even 100% sure I think he would deserve the Holloway fight, Lamas would be pretty perfect IMO. I doubt he will need too much rest after dispatching BJ Penn in the first or second round. Not really interested in seeing them run Stephens or Guida back, personally.

Lamas makes some sense if he crushes BJ, but that fight is nearly a month and a half away. Meanwhile Cub Swanson is without a dance partner and the exact kind of fighter who can make Pettis look good.

I prefer Sadollah's miracle armbar or Cody McKenzietining Koscheck's top pick.

Chris Leben's total meltdown and Rampage's door destruction were also pretty great.

That's not a bad fight either. I guess I didn't realize Cub was ranked so high still, I guess he snuck those two wins past me somehow. Not sure how him being at Jackson's plays into things. I doubt Pettis would care, but I doubt Jackson/Winklejohn would be okay with training a part-time team member who doesn't even rep them to fight a full-time one.

Read on Twitter

I also don't think he makes Pettis look good on the feet. Pettis is getting lackadaisical or incapable with his lateral movement and distance control these days, plus his boxing has really regressed. His punches are so comparatively stiff, not angled, and without snap, when they used to be fluid even at the beginning, although he's only shown 1 punch power in the UFC title fights. Plus, Cub's not very static, nor does he provide a big target for Pettis to deliver kicks to. Pettis might exploit him on the ground, but he tends to do that to guys initiating the grappling. He seldom does it himself, which also wasn't always the case. And I don't think Cub would initiate it. I'd have to see significantly more signs of the renaissance to think that would be a good match-up for Pettis. As of now we've just seen a better mindset to keep trying, go for the kill, maybe a little more power to the kicks returning, and an improved top game, when he can get the knockdown, or guys want to go there with him before he sweeps. I would give him an edge over Holloway and Lamas, from those things, but a fight with Cub may not be far off the one w/ Barboza. And btw, he matches up significantly better with Conor right now, than Aldo. Don't know how the Conor fight would go, but I have a good idea w/ Aldo, without further signs he's near or the same guy as he used to be.

I used to clamor for the Conor/Pettis fight because I agreed it was a good matchup, but with the boxing regression of Pettis you speak of, honestly I'm not so sure anymore.

Yeah, lol, at the lack of effect in those punches. Oliveira was getting his head turned by clean shots, but walking straight through them. No power.

I wonder what has changed? Hmm. YOU SAW DA.

Carlos Condit is a **** legend, I'm sorry to see him have to take these late career losses. HOFer.

I read the Fightnomics book awhile back. As fighters age, they are much more likely to be KOed, and much less likely to be submitted. The theory was that the chin disintegrates but submission defense just gets better as you train more. Basically what I'm saying is that this has nothing to do with "late career losses". Maia ran through him in a textbook manner and did to him what he does to everyone. You don't give up your back because you're old, and obviously its not an athletic discrepancy because Condit will probably be more athletic when he's 50 than Maia is right now.

Surprised that you didn't toss out an USADA accusation here to explain the recent losses. Condit is actually bern's second favorite fighter, so it would probably do just as well for your baiting purposes.

Not to spam two threads with jre content, but two quick thoughts relating to Maia:
1) I think Rogan thinks its a compliment to Maia to continuously compare him to Rickson, I see it as Rickson doesn't belong in the same sentence as Maia. Maybe if Maia starts fighting professional wrestlers, ducking top competition, and then talking more about how good he is than fighting, then the comparison makes a little more sense.
2) Eddie Bravo should really give BJJ Scout credit when he rips off all of his analysis on the air. Now people are doing videos of Maia doing exactly what Eddie is saying on the podcast, but the problem is that isn't Eddie's analysis that he is now getting credit for, he got it all from BJJ Scout. 100% of it. I don't think it was intentional on his end but it still sucks for the guy who put in the work.

I happened to be passing that exact point of the last FC. He prefaced with, "there's this guy on YouTube who has made these sets of videos in four parts breaking down..." That's a long lost point 5-10 minutes later, mind you.

Re: Rickson. I see your point. Maia's character and spirit are a thousand fold those of Rickson. He is as admirable as anyone in the sport for both his skill development and his courage. But I think they are referring pretty specifically to the press he maintains on opponents as he works them over. Something those early Gracie's were known for.

Garreth McLellen vs Alessio Di Chirico on the undercard was bat**** insane. Next to that fight between the Quebec hockey guy and that Boston dude, the wildest of the year.

Watchit.
