I think there's some extreme truthfulness in the overall scope of this series.

"Your home belongs to the bank, your gas tank is lining the pockets of those who had more to do with 9/11 than the country in which your brother died fighting in and you're told the economy is in high gear despite your paycheck doing less and less. But what you just saw was unambiguous. One person hit another and the other fell. Nothing about it lied to you."

Watched about 85% of this. Not quite sure of the appeal. Are we just that starved for thoughtful commentary? Felix is such a snivelling ****. And the aptness of him drawing parallels between economic turns and MMA, I don't buy it. I would like to see some sort of write-up that gives the moments he correlates more specifically.

One thing that does not make sense, for example, is MMA's appeal in Calgary and Toronto. Which is bigger than anywhere else on the planet, per capita. And yet, no War in Iraq, no 2008, nothing.In fact, it was incredibly popular through Alberta during an incredible boom period. Working men who made 100K working in oil attended those shows, without any reason to feel socially alienated. MFC events and UFC both.

And in Toronto, it's white collar suburban people who pack the Rogers Centre. The exact same pricks who attend MLS games.

In both cases - Calgary and Toronto, these are people profiting hugely from resource extraction and capitalism. That's who drives the UFC in Canada. None of their friends are losing limbs in idiot wars, the government represents their interests, they live super comfortable lives.

This is just cookie cutter "all that is solid melts into air" critique of capitalism. You could claim it applicable to just about anything. People like to knit or to go to the batting cages or freeze dry cod because capitalism means flux and insecurity.
