Jose Torres announces release due to the end of the UFC Flyweight Division

What a shame. Crazy how the women's featherweight division is still around and not the flyweight division.

Well I liked the division, but we all suspected this was coming.

(Women's featherweight will be gone when Cyborg leaves shortly).

It wasn't ever a really deep division and if it hadn't been for the talent that was Might Mouse, it probably would've folded a while ago. MM getting traded was just the last draw for that division.

I was out since virtually the beginning, and for those who can beef up and move up, this will add more spice to the bw division making it one of the better in the UFC. It'll be interesting to see who they retain. Sergio already moved up. Cejudo was contemplating it. Figueredo should be asked. Alejandro moved down just to give juice to a dying division that's now dead.

Close to 60% of the fights ended in decision, the highest for any male division. They had the lowest KO finish % and second lowest SUB finish %. No doubt the dudes were skilled, but the majority of the fights lacked the thought that any fight could end at any second. I think that is one of the reasons why that division just never really clicked for many people.

There just isn't a pool of men that size such that you could stock a division. Not in Anglo or Brazilian worlds, anyways.

Besides, when there was, their athleticism isn't even pleasing to watch. I also never watch Pacquiao fights. The scale of their bodies mean I can't even relate to what they're doing. No one shifts weight, they sort of explode into movement. Like anime figures. Pac, included. How do those punches even happen? And definitely DJ. He's just a combustion.

This is the heart of it to me, not really the finish rates or the other stuff. There are just so few flyweights worth watching simply because there are just so few flyweights.

This was the right decision. The best of the division will move up, and the rest will head to One FC who will gladly take them. Win win.

I actually think the biggest culprit in this is the fact that Joseph Benavidez is like the third best fighter in the division and looks like he should be in my son's daycare class.

And now apparently TJ vs. Cejudo is happening at 125 for a belt that will then be retired? Not sure what that is all about. Odd decision.

If TJ losses do they have to scrap 135 too?

UFC has gone full blown screw it mode. Who cares that it makes complete sense to welcome the group of 125ers into 135 by having the 125 champ challenge the 135 champ at you know, 135 the weight they're going to be competing at going forward. But no lets kill the 125 division, bring the 125ers to 135, the 125 champ wants to fight for the 135 belt. But with all of that lets have them fight at 125 for a belt that will mean absolutely nothing after the bell rings.

Short-term payoffs make sense, given WME's literal need for short-term payoffs.

LOL, random post but i really thought Shorty Torres was the next big star for the Flyweight's and had the potential to dethrone Mighty Mouse.

What a bust.
