I still think it's hard to say about the wrestling part. Masvidal has shown some great TDD with excellent technique but he also hasn't fought against some of the best wrestlers MMA has to offer.

I think it comes down to footwork. His hands will be there to put Maia's lights out but it's whether he can keep enough distance to put those hands on him before Maia gets his hands on Gamebred.

I mean, I don't see this one. Masvidal used to fight at 155 and was decent there. Maia was at 185 for years and got to a title shot and got kicked out of the division by eventual champ Chris Weidman (on short notice).

Who's been able to control the distance and keep Maia off of them in years? Prime Rory was getting grapple **** by Maia in the 1st until Maia gassed. He Fitched Fitch. He embarrassed Gunnar. Watch Maia-Condit again, that was an absolute 1 sided clinic.

Maia is definitely the favorite, I just took issue with counting Masvidal out. Who has ever really beaten Masvidal decisively in the last several years? Nobody at all that I can think of.

Also, if you want an anecdote then Brown landed a hard shot in Maia later on in their fight that could have led to a finish. I don't think Brown is as good as Masvidal at this point.

He's such a manipulative douche.

He's talking now about how he was compromised after getting cut in the third round against Cody. "Some people say it was by a headbutt, some people say it was by a kick. Let's say for our purposes it was a kick."

LOL! No excuses.

He's both muddying the waters by putting out the idea that it was a headbutt and acting like he's being gracious in granting that it was a kick.

No, it was clearly a kick and not a headbutt. This is the headbutt:

He got clipped on the very top of the head, not his brow. He's not being gracious when he gives this the benefit of doubt, he's just implicating excuses.

Anyone have any suggestions for what to watch on ufc fight pass? I will have it during the London event which is kind of cool - those top 3-4 cards are probably about as interesting as a fightpass card gets I'd think (Manuwa/Anderson/Joubain/Gunnar/Pickett/Amirkhani/Duffy).

Surprising there are no comments on Dern. I thought she was one of the next big things. She looked pretty good, outside of her wrestling being nothing special. But she showed improvement enough in striking to win on the fight. Good aggression and combos, with sneaky kicks on the end often times. Defensively she can't get out of the way too well. I'd attribute that to not being in good shape and having big ol' titties. Actually, on the ground some of her submission techniques looked raw. Where she was nasty was positional bjj. But she had a triangle attempt where her leg underneath the arm wasn't even close to high enough. Got to get it up tight underneath that armpit. She's 20 I think, but I sort of expected better sub attempts on the ground from a bjj world champ.

Eryk Anders was also on the show, and he's sort of reinforcing how far being an elite, powerful, athlete with sufficient courage goes in MMA. The former Alabama national football champion runs his record to 7-0 pro, after going 5-0 amateurs. Not long until he's in a major org. He's just getting a lot of mileage out of judging distance, controlling it with his speed, throwing a left hand repeatedly, and tackling people. He's got plenty of star potential because he's good on the mic too. To beat the top guys he probably needs to hone and diversify techniques, but off what he has already I think he's upper-mid level in UFC.

I was super hyped about Dern a year or so back but lost interest when she started coming in fat every fight. Didn't and won't bother watching this fight after she missed weight twice in a row while looking sloppy fat on the scale.

Sounds like a probationary period until she can get that bad habit fixed. She's obviously working in the gym to be able to go hard for 3 rounds and seeing how far she's come with her striking.

Justin Gaethje is the most talented boxer in MMA. Duuuuude. I would suggest watching highlights but virtually every moment of every fight is him in a slobberknocker displaying some of the best intuition for angles / mechanics in the sport.

The most unfortunate thing is that he has surely left most of his career and cogency on the gym floor at Grudge. What do you want to bet that pencil-necked weirdo who runs Grudge has had Gaethje spar more than 50 rounds with Shane Carwin? Guarantee it.

Is this the first time a ufc event came and went without a single post made about it on these boards? (Not counting this one - lol).

He is full on every conspiracy, right? If it's got aliens, lizard people, or hugely impossible coverups involved, he's all in.

How can someone that seems so humble and willing to learn about something he's actually amazing at(BJJ, combat sports) be so smug and arrogant when talking about stuff that can't be proven at all, and is usually drummed up by some obscure, poorly constructed, disingenuous youtube video?

I don't know if I buy the Rogan line on martial arts and humbleness. I guess if you were coming from excellence in one sport and having to get your ass kicked every day in another, it might be necessary. But that is not Bravo's biography.

Bravo does seem to have exceptional integrity when it comes to his sport, I'll grant that. Ensuring everyone gets credit, following his muse with the EBI rules, etc. But I know countless BJJ practicioners who are just as condescending and smug as he is. The Gracie family alone...

That whole martial arts humbleness thing is the biggest load of BS I've ever heard in my life.

Just be thankful it isn't BJ vs Holloway in Hawaii or some absurd sh*t like that.
