No boxer has boxed circles around Lucas... not even Alexander who has an excellent pedigree.

Peterson has never boxed circles around anybody else either, he is always more comfortable fighting inside but he doesn't have heavy hands or a good chin.

I am happy to report that the normally obligatory Canelo Alvarez next opponent joke no longer applies.

If it was so easy to box circles around Matthysse someone would have done it already. Alexander and Judah couldn't do it. Yes, those two lost to Matthysse, which is why he's hell bent these days on not letting his fights go the distance. The only boxer around 140-147 that could box circles around his Mayweather.

FYI, espn.com is reporting Miguel Cotto will be back in the ring for a fight at the Barclay's Center on September 28th. Dan Rafael tweeted he'd love to see Cotto against Alfredo Angulo or Victor Ortiz.

True. But Judah, much older, survived. Lucas is a beast but personally I think he's incredibly overrated. But in boxing when you knock guys out, that's what happens.

Victor Ortiz still boxes ?

FWIW, BoxRec has Cornelius Bundrage listed as his opponent. Fringe 154 lb. contender who lost his last fight to Ishe Smith. Not a bad bounce back fight for Cotto if he's intent on staying at 154. Could also be Angulo or Lara if one of them isn't fighting Canelo. An Ortiz fight would probably happen at 147, Cotto hasn't fought at that weight since the loss to Pacquiao but I'm thinking he can still make that weight since he's small at 154.

The fight would probably be at 154. Ortiz was supposed to fight Canelo at 154 before he got his ass busted by Lopez. Can't see why he wouldn't face Cotto at that weight.

And isn't Cotto going to be trained by Roach now? That's like his 5th trainer in 6 years right?

I wouldn't mind seeing Cotto in there against Bundrage or Ortiz.

Carl Froch defeated Mikkel Kessler by UD in their rematch in London. Scorecards were 118-110, 116-112, and 115-113. I had it 115-113 for Froch. I thought the latter 2 scorecards were in the correct range but 118-110 by Adalaide Byrd is an absolute **** card. Kessler definitely won more than 2 rounds.

Very good, competitive fight as expected. Kessler started off too slow and I thought that proved costly. He did better in the middle rounds and it was a close fight entering the 12th when Froch put a stamp on the victory with a big round. We'll see if a trilogy gets made, there were rumors that Kessler might retire if he lost this fight. I think he can give Froch another tough fight but maybe Froch goes after Ward? I would prefer the 3rd fight for him because I just don't see how he can beat Andre Ward.

Great answer by froch. I don't think i'd fight ward again, he's not big on letting me punch him in the face.

Very good fight though. Very entertaining.

I'm a huge fan of Froch. His style isn't always pretty, but the guy is extremely gritty and possesses a great chin. There's no shame in being the second best at 168 either because Ward is probably the second best boxer in the entire world behind Mayweather.

Floyd MayweatherVerified account ‏@FloydMayweather

I chose my opponent for September 14th and it's Canelo Alvarez. I'm giving the fans what they want. It will be at the MGM Grand.

catchweight of 152 pounds. Also, Bradley vs JMM was previously scheduled for this date but gets moved to October 12th

At least there isn't a same day weight restriction clause.

Canelo better work on his stamina issues. He can't afford to take rounds of like he did against Trout.

Pretty awesome news. I have no issues with the catch weight. Canelo is still going to have a huge weight advantage. I would guess that it will be your typical Floyd UD bit I'm excited to see Canelo against this level of competition.

This is going to do A LOT of PPV buys.

Mayweather gets the edge in this fight due to his superior hand speed and craftiness. I don't know how anyone could be overly impressed with Canelo's last fight against Trout. If anything these two should do a rematch.

At any rate expect Mayweather to pick and pop his way to a big points lead.

Canelo needed like 1 or 2 more fights under his belt before facing Mayweather. He isn't ready yet. That being said he's in a win win position because of his age. If he loses it's no big deal, he's still going to make tons of money. If he wins, he explodes as boxing's next great superstar.

He really isn't ready given what we saw vs a very solid Austin Trout. You can't knock either fighter... this is the fight we wanted and the fight we are going to get. It isn't often that we can say that about the best fighters in the world.

Mayweather is thinking... well I don't want to catch him when his wave is cresting and Canelo can't say no to the biggest paycheck he will ever get.
