Any active guys who want to get into this sort of thing should probably do it now, there are only so many MMA programmes going around they'll end up working the Bellator Midnight Hotline Show at this rate

If anyone is guaranteed a post-fighting career in broadcasting, it's Sonnen. I just wouldn't compromise my training. The commitment is pretty significant, from what I can tell. Chael is putting in a lot of airtime which entails a fair bit of prep and careful attention to the events. And he's gotta hang around LA (I assume he's training in Temeculah?) even though his mom and main gym is in Gresham.

Honestly, Sonnen should be the promoter once Dana has to hang em up.

As unorthodox as that would be, I'd approve of it.

Interesting stuff. First transgender fighter.

If anyone is interested in this, the guys over at the underground website have been doing interviews with health professionals about this same subject. They interviewed a gender reassignment doc, and the response was that it is safe for her to fight mma. They did a follow-up with Dr. Benjamin who is an orthopedic surgeon and he said no its not safe because of the advantages gained at puberty that cannot be reversed (extra height, muscle mass, and bone length were reasons he cited).

IDK, I'm super socially liberal but something about this doesn't jive well with me. I mean if the female fighter is willing to fight her, fine I guess, but at the very least this needs to be disclosed imo. Her not disclosing it then immediately KOing her former opponents is, imo, bullsh*t.

Chael without his troll hat on, talking about MMA wrestling and how different it is than the traditional styles of wrestling & how they transfer over. Pretty good use of 25 minutes.

Vitor not likely to get licensed in Vegas.

"That's because "The Phenom" doesn't meet the requirements for the controversial treatment under the guidelines of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), which state that any fighter previously popped for steroid abuse -- which is a contributing factor to low testosterone later on in life -- is immediately disqualified."

Beautiful. His last three fights have been outside the U.S., conspicuously.

Ben competed in the Arizona Open this weekend, and after watching his match, trust me when I tell you that you don't want to watch it (its on graciemag youtube if you must).

Its him spamming for takedowns, failing on 74 out of 75 of them, getting one and scoring. His opponent starts pulling guard (6 minutes too late) and then sweeping Ben multiple times but Ben scrambles back to his feet from bottom and starts spamming takedowns again. Yikes I wish I got that time of my life back. Ben's lucky mma takes place in a cage, his takedowns were meh without it.

Np. TBH I was actually surprised that Bendo still competed at brown considering that he has medalled at brown belt at world's before a few years back (and the fact that he is un-submittable). After watching that match...I get it. Not to take anything away from him at all, he's obviously a beast and would find at least some success at any level at probably just about any combat sport he wanted to pursue.

Wednesday night UFC fight nights coming when Fox Sports One Launches in August.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/n ... &eref=sihp

The new network will feature plenty of UFC, including 12 live "Fight Nights" bouts that will air on Wednesdays. There will also be a weekly studio show (UFC Tonight) and 14 Saturday pay-per-view preliminary cards. Fox Sports 1 will air a UFC event the night before Super Bowl XLVIII from the Prudential Center in Newark.

In an interview with SI.com, UFC head Dana White said his organization had been talking with a number of different networks but Fox moved quickly to secure the rights. "They have spread us across big Fox, FX and Fuel, and obviously it has worked out great for both of us," White said. "This is a work in progress, but we knew the light at the end of the tunnel is going to be Fox Sports 1."

White said the UFC studio show on Fox Sports 1 will be similar to the one on Fuel. As for the live bouts, UFC will air 12 fight cards on Wednesday nights between the network's August launch and a to-be-determined date in 2014. "We want to make sure that when we deliver fights, we deliver fights that people want to watch," White said. "I think you saw in the old days when boxing went away from [over-the-air] TV, they put crappy boxing on TV that people did not want to watch. We are doing the exact opposite."

Is this the match you're talking about? I don't see exactly what you're describing (don't know anything about sports grappling, for sure). It seems an OK match.

That's it. What did you think I was wrong about? They had a thread about the match on sherdog grappling and people seemed to mostly agree with what I was saying, but IDK much about grappling either so I could easily be wrong about any of it.

I guess I was just disappointed because I wanted to see him work on the ground instead of takedown fail, takedown fail, takedown succeed or opponent guard pull, get swept immediately, stand up and repeat the takedown stuff (no set ups for any of the td attempts btw). They spent half the match on the neighboring mat and were warned for it.

I hope these are taking the place of some Fuel/FX/Fox events, and not just adding another 12 to the calendar.

I've mentioned before, but I think it would be ideal to have two events a month. One PPV and one free card. Maybe throw another 4-6 events on Fox in there, but no more than that.

One free card and one PPV a month is perfect.
It keeps my interest flowing, but doesn't saturate the card depth too much.

I believe they are replacing the Fuel/FX events. Not sure about Fox ones.

I require weekly high-level MMA to quench my thirst.

I think UFC can justify 3 cards per month with the Strikeforce merge. Their roster is huge.

Then the remaining void can be filled by Bellator, even WSOF (even though I'm not much of a fan, and they hold cards so infrequently).

MMAhour listen. You know, not that there is any excuse, but I have never really thought about the circumstances surrounding the Bonnar/Silva fight and the ped usage.

Bonnar was retired as far as we/he knew, and was called with 3 weeks notice. He claims he was taking the steroid (to recover from injury? sorry his voice is muffled on the podcast) and then stopped immediately when he knew about the fight (or awhile before? again sorry). He shouldn't have accepted the fight, obviously, and he probably shouldn't have been juicing, but it is interesting to put things in perspective. Seems like everyone starts juicing, legally or illegally, when they hear Anderson Silva's name, but he may have actually stopped when he heard it brought up. I'm assuming he isn't dumb enough to start just a week or two out from the fight.

Yeah, 400 fighters fighting 3 times a year, on average, with 22 fighters per card = little more than one card per week. Considering injuries and champs who only fight a couple times a year, once a week is doable.
