Bellator filed a lawsuit Wednesday in U.S. District Court (Central District of California) attempting to block two subpoenas from the UFC that would force the release of “confidential” documents involving fighter contracts and negotiations, per public court records.
The UFC is asking for those documents as part of its defense against fighters Cung Le, Nate Quarry, Jon Fitch and others, who are suing them for an alleged violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. The Sporting News was the first to report the information.
In the motion to quash or modify the subpoenas, Bellator attorney Philip Kelly writes that Bellator has produced more than 2,000 documents in response to the subpoenas, but the UFC wants more, seeking “sensitive, highly confidential information of no relevance to the underlying action.”
Bellator has provided documents identifying all fighters under Bellator contracts and “dates, locations, venues, athletes and purses paid for Bellator matches,” Kelly wrote. The motion continues that the UFC wants to see all Bellator athlete contracts and the negotiation history of those contracts. Both parties in the lawsuit are also seeking Bellator’s operations-wide quarterly reports, which are not public documents and “not relevant to the litigation,” per Kelly’s motion.

$1,000 contract?

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
Lorenz Larkin officially signed with Bellator; add him to Lima, Koreshkov, Macdonald, and MVP...that's a real nice top of the division. They also added Conor's boy Dillon Danis though Idk how he is as a mixed martial artist; dude is the real deal as a grappler though.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
I'm good with it, until the union is effect. I'd like to see Bellator have about 6 quality guys per division so they can have interesting match-ups and develop rivalries. Bellator's core guys aren't going anywhere for a while.
It would have been nice had they not just cut a bunch of their quality guys like Popo, Richman, Silva, etc.; and developed prospects better like during the tourney format. They could have taken advantage of this problem from within instead of needing to sign higher priced fa's like Larkin. But I guess they still needed a contingent of those too for their originals like Lima and Koreshkov to make their name off. Larkin-Lima would make a pretty sweet secondary org title fight. Make that match yesterday. Lima has already been waiting too long. They could do it in Brasil or in California, Larkin's backyard. Knowing Coker it will be the latter.
Bellator already signed Leandro Higo to challenge Dantas for the title. That's a good and much needed addition to the bw division.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
WTF is going on with bellator. When Meathead signed to fight Fedor, he did media saying that they needed him to sign the contract without knowing who his opponent was. He needed to go into it blind. I kind of chalked that up to BS. Now King Mo was on MMAHour yesterday and Ariel asked him something about fighting Rampage again and Mo said he didn't even know that was who he was fighting, that Bellator randomly approached him and said they need him to sign a fight contract but they couldn't tell him who his opponent was.
WTF kind of backwoods promotion is this exactly?

It feels like they are trying to get some of the WWE mystery in their announcements. But, it's kind of a dopey way to do business.

Coker kind of addressed in earlier this week, basically said it was so that fight matchups didn't leak. IDK, I don't like it.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
In vintage Bellator fashion, Higo was 4 pounds over-weight so his title fight with Dantas tonight is now a non-title fight.
Also, how is it that Bellator can't seem to keep their best fighters active but somehow seems to book the same 6 females like every month?

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
Sick head kick ko by Mckee. A lot of speed behind that and decent set up with the strike and footwork feint. Mazzotta shouldn't have tried to block it so close to his head though. From a contender building standpoint, I don't know what Bellator got out of that. Mazzotta was 11-0 but a no-name. Just seemed like an unnecessary risk and I don't know where Mckee goes from here marketing-wise. They may throw him into the wolves but I don't know if many more will watch now.
Pitbull wins the title back from Straus. Had less problem closing the distance, used kicks more, timed some straights, and found Straus' weakness again of choke defense. Seems like it's his only one. Doesn't protect that neck and taps quick. Could seemingly beat just about anyone but get upset. I'd have rather seen Macapa or Weichel fight Straus and Pitbull face Chandler.

Sorta felt that McKee kick was a bit of a fluke. Other guy saw it, blocked it, and didn't even allow that much to carry through. It was pretty uncanny. I actually wonder if there were neurological issues from training camp or something...ala Forrest vs Andy. I don't think that kick KOs the guy everytime nor that the fight ends that easily for McKee 10/10 times.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
MVP bowed out of his fight on this weekend's big British card due to injury. He signed with a secondary major mma org almost 5 years ago now, hasn't lost or drawn, and yet still hasn't even reached #1 contender fight status yet. Kind of wondering if that dude's career is ever going to start. It's always one reason or another that he doesn't ascend.
Bellator replaced that fight with an 0-0 fighter facing a 0-1 one (Baby Slice). Also have an 11-1 fighter on the main card fighting one who has a .500 record. Rich Cho's/Scott Coker's matchmaking/card-building continues to leave a lot to be desired. When the UFC opens doors for them they are too busy schmoozing with former legends and their relatives to walk through them.

I think this card is fine so I don't want to rip it too much but I kind of wish it was Daley/Larkin and Rory/Lima.

The way Bellator has handled MVP has been horrible. Bringing him along way too slow. The novelty has worn off for me before he ever fought anyone with a pulse. At least they didn't make him fight Frankie Edgar though.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
No posts a day after Bellator's big English event. Yeah, I had trouble giving a f**k too. I fast-forwarded through all but 80% of the main card. They had 2 fights I somewhat cared about, and they both kind of fell flat because the opponents lack of tdd and ability to do much off their backs. Kongo was boring as he typically is. He may be the most consistently boring fighter in MMA at this point. Who gives a rip about an 11-1 fighter facing a 14-4 guy. It was what we thought. Terrible matchmaking and executed event. It's like they don't want people to care passed the event they're staging. Such a short-sighted plan for an organization, after they used to be the opposite. What's ironic is they kind of mocked Bjorn on his way out the door like his way of running an org was a naive one. Again, I got more satisfaction out of watching the LFA event for similar reasons I used to out of BFC, only on a lower level.
