You could see Hatton and Alvarez look at each other the first time it happened, expecting him to jump in and pull them apart. And they actually have to make eye contact so they can agree to break, cos the **** ref isn't intervening. They're reffing themselves.

I'm only 6 rounds in and this already become a problem. He didn't physically break the fighters during a clinch, Hatton lands a final shot after teh call, Lou still takes his time jumping in, and Alvarez has time to throw a really punishing shot. WTF? I've never seen a ref verbally call breaks and not actually intervene.

Alvarez was using Winning gloves and they are pillows... I am surprised by this because any Mexican guy uses Reyes unless he has problems with his fists. It is like living in Detroit and driving in a SAAB.

Well HBO has been shooting themselves on the foot with Arum.

Martinez and Dzwhatever his name is going to be a boring fight. It is a shame that HBO is making Martinez fight him. He is getting 700K for being a no name fighter, with no backing, no wins on US TV except a showbox fight vs a guy that wasn't even top 15 in his division in a higher weight class...

HBO sucks...

I don't like the Cotto fight on PPV but at least it will be fun while it lasts...

That sucks, Cotto/Mayorga is not worth paying PPV money to watch.

Damn, what a comeback for Andy Lee. Solid, entertaining undercard fight. McEwan shouldn't have punched himself tired though.

Martinez = Beast...'nuff said. He needs to stop chasing Pacquiao and Mayweather though. They'll never fight him above 147 and at that weight, Martinez loses to both. Again, there's a better chance someone at us seeing him fight anyone from the Super 6 than those two.

I've lost count how many times I've facepalmed and shook my head at Mayorga...what happened to Mayorga's hand?

Martinez is a bad motherfuccker... I mean he made a world class fighter look helpless at times and didn't even belong in the ring with him. He outjabbed his ass, hit the harder shots, and knocked him down 5 times. You got to appreciated the fact that he made a fight that was going to be a snooze fest watchable and entertaining by just his sheer talent and badassness.

I loved the undercard fight... all I want is guy to let their hands go even if they aren't what I consider world class fighters.

I saw the Cotto fight as well.... I thought it was interesting that Tyson said that they were both past their prime and at the end of the fight I agreed with him. Cotto took 12 rounds to take him out when I thought it was be over in 6 or less.

Mayorga did really well. He gave up on defensive movement a couple rounds in, but had actually looked pretty technical defensively for a couple rounds. I'm not sure how he can do that and still not throw a straight right or a tight hook, IDK. But that was a legit fight. I was wrong dismissing it as a sideshow.

Wow, that is a tiny crowd watching the Martinez fight. Tiny building, empty seats everywhere. Unbelievably sparse. Are there 2000 people there? Sad. Martinez is the 2nd or 3rd best boxer in the world, crazy stylish techinque, good looking, an interesting personality and coming off of both a FOTY candidate and a 1 rd KO of a p4p name.

Well that is what happens when you have a fight in a casino in conn. They pay a good site fee, and they don't care about selling tickets. Most of the tickets are comps.

Saw Cotto-Mayorga on youtube after the HBO fights, I believe the broadcast was from Nicaragua. I give Cotto a mixed review. He's obviously not as good as he was before but I think its clear that he's worked on his footwork and defense since the hiring of Steward. Mayorga, outside of DLH, has generally been a tough guy to take out early to mid rounds, so a part of me isn't surprised that it went that long. I did think before the fight that Cotto would take him out in the middle rounds. That left hook was real nice on the knockdown in round 12. It looks like Cotto-Margarito II will happen next. Both aren't what they were 3 years ago but its still going to be a great fight to watch IMO and its PR-Mexico, the atmosphere is going to be off the charts.

What else can be said about Sergio Martinez. With Floyd's inactivity, you have to put him #2. 5 KD's against a guy who hadn't been KD, total mismatch which I didn't expect. The next obvious fight for him has to be Sturm. Kellerman is drumming up Kirkland but no way is he ready for that right now. Undercard was fight of the night. All McEwan early on, I thought it was real close to being stopped at one point. Then, you got the sense McEwan was starting to gas which Lee took full advantage of. What a thrilling finish to an entertaining fight.

What a dumb move longterm. Considering the rift between Top Rank and Golden Boy, Top Rank can hold Lopez, Gamboa, and Vasquez Jr. (would've been a great stepping stone into junior featherweight like Sidorenko was for bantamweight) from ever fighting him.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly asking $100M for a fight with Pacquaio, according to Bob Arum.

Why can't he just say "I don't want to fight Pacquiao" and get it over with? :nonono:

Two sources have told me talks are taking place for a Mayweather-Spadafora bout in July, HBO is involved in those discussions #boxing

If this turns out to be true, I'm going to choke someone.

Well if anyone wants to see Pacman's last loss... HBO2 will be showing Morales vs Pacman 1.

Well I think Mayweather wants to erase any doubts people had from their first sparring session.

Does Pascal have KO power? Hopefully he can retire Hopkins.

^^^ quote]Whatever respect I once had, and everyone knows I had a ton of it for Bernard, went down the toilet with those remarks. I am at a loss to think of a time when I have been more disgusted! [/quote]

Oh please, Russ. Hopkins is Hopkins, and he's always said insane things. The racial stuff was far worse.

Exactly. I've never been a fan of how Hopkins drew in a crowd. From throwing the Puerto Rican flag to the ground in the build up for his fight against Trinidad to saying "I'll never let a white boy beat me" before he fought Calzaghe, this incident was nothing compared to those two.

Magee vs Bute was pretty great. I haven't seen power hand body shots like that ever, really. Power hand hooks...every once in a while. But not those sneaky uppercuts to the body. They were great.

I don't agree with that stoppage at all, even if Magee didn't protest. The guy was as fit and as game as they come. I couldn't believe the energy he still had in the 10th round. Nevermind that he'd been down 3 times to body shots. He never stepped backwards and he was throwing back hard. Really impressive.

Bute talked about his dream being to fight in LV or at Madison Square. Huh. IDK if I believe him. It's 18 straight in Montreal, I think. Then again, maybe it's not a fear of leaving the nest and simply the finances of being able to put 12,500 in an arena solely to see you. He might be making 500K a fight, I've got to think.
