Lomachenko/Linares...brilliant display of offensive boxing by both guys. What a body shot by Loma to stop Linares.

Me either. I was like "what the hell did he hit him with" because it happened so fast.

Technically, this was one of the better offensive displays between two highly skilled fighters that I've seen in quite some time.

The thing about Loma is that he can adapt quickly. I doubt he's doing to allow himself to be put in a position where he gets caught like that again. He got a little too cocky, and he's going to learn from it. He wasn't really hurt from that knock down. He was definitely stunned, but he still had his legs.

I think Loma has one more rise in weight class left in him. However, he needs to gradually move up to 140. He shouldn't rush himself to fight Mikey Garcia, even though that's the fight we all want to see. Beltran, and Easter would be good tests for him before he eventually moves up to junior welter. He only gained 3 pounds after the weigh in, where-as Linares bloated all the way the to 152 I believe. Linares definitely looked like the much bigger fighter.

Anyway, great fight. Loma is definitely pound for pound the best fighter in the world. His resume in 12 professional fights speaks for itself. It's not as if he's beating up mediocre fighters.

Lomachenko is tentatively scheduled to fight in August at the Forum in Inglewood, presumably going to be a unification against Ray Beltran. Mikey Garcia/Robert Easter Jr. agreed earlier in the week to fight each other in July.

Noob question but is Gervonta Davis going to get a shot at Lomanchenko anytime soon?

I don't think so. Loma is probably going to stay at 135 for now, in preparation for an eventual fight against Garcia.

Plus, I don't think TMT lets him anywhere near Loma. Loma would toy with him pretty easily. Those two are nowhere near the same level.

So the hype on Davis ain't real? Or he just isn't ready right now?

He just hasn't fought the level of competition that Loma has faced since he turned pro. Plus skill wise, the two aren't anywhere near the same level.

In only 12 professional fights Loma has already faced the likes of Salido, Russell Jr, Rigo, Walters and Linares. He hasn't been brought along slowly, nor has he been protected. He's the fastest fighter to win in 3 different weight classes.

By comparison, fights taken to win in 3 weight classes:

Oscar De La Hoya - 22 fights
Floyd - 34
Pacquiao - 41

That's good information, thanks for that

Considering who Davis's promoter is, there is just no chance. You don't want a quit-in-between-rounds on your record in boxing. Can destroy a career (Victor Ortiz).

But I think Davis is mind-boggling good, that said. Will be top 5-10 p4p in no time. The power on his counter-punching is incredible.

How was it ? It looked live on TV and it was a great fight. Even though Jack always get robbed or get the short end of the stick, I think it was a draw. Need a rematch.

This fight started off slow but ended up being pretty decent. It could have gone either way since it was that close. So a draw seems appropriate.

That being said, these two guys would get creamed by some of the top guys of the division.

And Gary Russell Jr proving why he has no name recognition in the sport. Someone asked him whether he would fight again this year and his response was along the lines of that would be nice but he has to preserve his body.

I agree with the draw. But that division does not have great fighters, the top guy at 168 is Ward but he's retired so I'm not sure who they can fight next besides Kovalev at 175.

Gary Russell have some of the fastest hands I've ever seen, but he slows down after the 3rd round. I think he will fight Santa Cruz next by the end of the year.

It’s 175 light heavyweight division. Bivol, Kovalov and Beterbiev are all guys that could starch either fighter.

The problem with Gary is that he’s content fighting only once a year. He says it’s more of a business to him. The problem is that his rational for fighting once a year as a business decision makes no sense. He should be a much bigger name than he currently is. The more you fight, the more of a following you get. It’s simple marketing. More exposure is a good thing. The guy’s heart simply isn’t in it. He’s fought some weak competition for the majority of his career, yet he acts like he’s some huge draw when he isn’t. Wasted talent.

I think the turnout was decent considering they only had like three weeks to promote it, apparently this was Toronto's first significant fight in three decades lol, Kelly Olynyk was sitting in front of me, barely anyone recognized him

Way more than 3 weeks, fwiw. It's been on the radar for a long time. But Toronto has had a farse event or two now (night-of cancellation, commission ****) and is just not a boxing town. It's such a huge sport in Brampton/Mississauga south Asian pop but among no one else. Not the crowd that goes to UFC, soccer, baseball, etc.

That ref last night cost jack the fight, simple as that. His corner had to tell him to stop throwing to the body entirely because of b.s. low blow calls. And breaking up inside action, shoving Jack back after breaks. Borderline fix.

Not sure how Russell Jr. does against someone like Santa Cruz, a premium body puncher. I thought Diaz had a very good body attack early, but then started to fade as Russell Jr. made adjustments, yet I also felt that Diaz wasn't being aggressive enough with some of those openings, inconsistent activity imo.

Stevenson/Jack was a solid fight. I thought Stevenson did well early, but Jack really came on around the middle of the fight. He had Stevenson staggered at several points during the fight. I had Jack closely winning the fight. Since it was a draw, a rematch is logical.

Canelo-GGG II is now official. Rematch was agreed to this afternoon, it will happen in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena on September 15. Some drama came along during negotiations, but I think somehow, a deal was more likely than not to go through. Big money fight for both guys.
