Its a damned shame. But I think it was clear his heart just wasn't in it anymore. If he wanted to get back on top he would have had to leave Russia to go train with new people . When the heavyweights began evolving he stayed where he was because he was training with guys who were nowhere near his level. If he wasn't willing to stray out of his comfort zone its better for everyone that he just quit.

REDDzone wrote:I'll disagree. If BJ defeated any of Maynard, Cerrone, Pettis, or Diaz...he'd be back in a title shot or one fight away so fast our heads would spin. Even with all the losing BJ has been doing lately, he is still the biggest draw on that list. And this is a time where the ufc needs ppv draws with Brock leaving, GSP out, etc. He wouldn't need to run the gauntlet at LW for a shot imo.

WW is a different story.

But what's the point? First off, Realistically, I can only see him maybe defeating Diaz out of all those guys... and secondly, even if he was back in contention for a title, he can't beat either of Edgar or Bendo, so what's the point? I get that he's a draw and things of that ilk, but those are things that appeal to fans... this is about what BJ wants, and I just don't think he's interested in fighting anymore unless it's for a title, and he's not at that level anymore. BJ just does not have the drive to fight his way back. His priorities have changed.

If he's legit holding out for a title fight, he may as well just hang up the gloves for good. If he is willing to take a big fight and if he won (the above fights, or else maybe a welcoming of Alvarez or Melendez to the ufc, or something like that), then I could see him fighting for a title again.

Aside from the actual act being idiotic, he wouldn't look like such a hypocrite if the dude didn't pride himself on having the good guy image.. There's a reason a handful of his peers and people in the know have called him fake..

To be honest, this is def threadworthy lol. When I created this thread, I was envisioning things like tweets, quotes, unsubstantiated rumors, Sonnen youtube vids, etc. I altered the title a little to help clarify the intent.

Something like this warrants discussion. Probably a lot of discussion.

If anyone is interested/bored at work/etc, I think Nick Diaz is in front of the nsac now for his suspension. There are streams and twitter summaries everywhere on the web.

Kizer originally contended that Diaz didn't have the card making him eligible to legally smoke in Cali, but Diaz attorneys now saying that is an option but not a requirement for use. The only REQUIREMENT is a doctor's note, which he has and apparently had. Should be good.

lmao, I guess Nick told the commission he'd never smoke again when he was busted in 2007...then he admitted today that he smoked "as soon as he got home".

Tone seems to be going bad for him.

Didn't buy it. Diaz suspended one year and 60,000 dollars.

In the meantime, testosterone is being given out like candy by the nsac.

Take PEDs, but whatever you do, do not smoke weed. haha

Pretty harsh penalty but I think the time off will do him some good, blessing in disguise.

It's weird that there were broken jock straps in two different fights this weekend - in the Ghita fight and I think in one of the Bellator fights. Things had to be stopped, removed and repaired. I'd never seen that ever before.

That was so funny, I just heard that.

How in the f'n world can Chael "Low T" Sonnen get free steriods, and another title shot, whilst organic, triathlon-runnin', organic-eatin' Nick Diaz get the book thrown at him because of some American state's absolutely archaic view on pot. What a joke. F'n sucks they'll be no Nick Diaz fight until Feb. 2013 earliest.
Overeem will be back before him......unbelievable.

Bob Sapp on MMA Hour this week will go down as one of the top 10 most bizarre interviews in MMA history.

Holy f'k, Bob.

(I always wanted to punch him in the face after he cried and cowered from Cro-Cop.)

Bob's going to fight in Afghanistan soon, 'nuf said.

Helwani basically called him a disgrace, and he was right.

I kind of think Sapp played Ariel there a little bit. Sapp made it clear he doesn't care what kind of publicity he gets, as long as its publicity. Ariel condemns promoters giving him attention by giving him fights, but then gives him like an hour on the most popular mma show alongside legitimate mma fighters.

Now everyone is talking about Bob freakin' Sapp.

That creepy laugh is bizarre though.

Like, something you'd heard in a cave and turn pale white.

But, that's a good point, Bob is back in the limelight for a few e-days.

He still sucks though, and one of the reasons people see some of the Pride stuff as a bit fishy.
He did have some real fights, pretty good ones, but I'd wager money that he was offered and accepted Yakuza money to dive.
