Weight does matter but one of them is alot more trained in this situation. Conor dodges one sloppy punch and hes countering Zions jaw and knocking him out

Connor didnt even have enough power to knock an old man out in a bar that want even expecting to be hit

You're underestimating the amount of training MMA fighters go through to get to where they are at. Any attempt by Zion to punch McGregor is easily countered. Any attempt to slam him is easily avoided or may result in broken bones for Zion. If Zion went through some training then we can talk. Without any fight training, it's not a fair fight.

Zion could absolutely slam McGregor, he can't defend against that kind of power man. Just imagine how strong Zion is, 280 pounds of pure strength and athleticism. You can have all the techinique in the world, but it's like fighting a bear, it doesn't really matter.

You have no idea what it would take to slam a world class trained fighter. Even if he is able to pick up McGregor, he's not going to be able to get a cleanly slam him to the ground. McGregor is more likely to break Zion's arm/wrist/etc. It would be very easy for a high trained fighter to turn the tables on someone trying to slam him.

Bro, McGregor is well trained, but he is not a super man, he can't defy physics. This is law of nature, he doesn't have the tools to beat somone like Zion, he just doesn't.

A few years ago, just for promotion, there was a video of McGregor sparring with The Mountain of Game of Thrones fame. Also known as the world's strongest man. And what was comically obvious was that despite being at the time maybe the best fighter of his weight class in the world, there was absolutely nothing he could do with a man of that size. Now admittedly that man is so massive he makes Zion look like a 90lb weakling (6'9" 400lb) but it was still instructive. One of the comments down there had it about right -- it looked like a father play-fighting with his son. there must have been some no grappling rules, because a few times Thor got hold of him and that would have been the utter end of the fight and McGregor's existence if it were a real fight, but he immediately released him rather than bodyslamming him. otherwise the "fight" would have been over in about 20 seconds.

Popular entertainment tells us too many amusing lies sometimes. No, Bruce Lee could not take down 200 guys, even coming at him 1 at a time. No 5'2" little Buffy could not actually beat the stuffing out of all those full grown moster-men. And no a buck 45 fighter isn't taking down a 300lb monster without a weapon or a bunch of friends. There's actually kind of a fighting sweetspot with a perfect combination of power and quickness somewhere in the 190-210 sort of range that can be dangerous to nearly any human. But 145 is just too small. You land blows on a huge human and they barely even feel them at that size. Its like asking if he could beat up a silverback gorilla. No he couldn't, and I'd hate to be the one cleaning up the mess after it was over.

Again people bringing this up as an example is stupid. Thor is 6'9" 452 lbs (heavier than Zion by like 170 lbs), he is a complete outlier of a human being. He could literally curl Conor with one arm and overhead press Zion's weight with one arm, thats how ridiculously strong this man is. Also you're using a video of a FRIENDLY SPARRING SESSION like you said, Conor and most normal minded human beings wouldnt fight like that with their actual life on the line.

Zion is 285 and Conor without manipulating his weight for fights would probably be around 170-180, hes not some scrawny dude. Professional fighters actually "lose weight" for weigh ins to meet requirements for their division.

Conor is probably about 170, and even that's inflated by some supplements. His natural weight is about 155 pounds.

Could he beat Greg Hardy?

Ill answer that question for him. No, Conor could not beat a 265lb football player who has a couple years of professional training in MMA. This is when its applicable to use "weight classes exist for a reason."

Zion who probably does not train in MMA and has zero experience in MMA on the other would most likely lose.

Using this argument is like the whole rings discussion in the NBA. If everything is about rings Robert Horry > Jordan, people seem to not understand CONTEXT.

Hardy had few months of training before he started his professional MMA career, fighting against dudes that had more experience, more skill, and they were actually heavyweights

To me this is the equivalent of NBA potential. Theres guys like LeBron/Shaq who can come in to the league and dominate from day 1 and then theres guys like Kobe who put in a little more work to become elite. LeBron was already an elite level athlete before stepping in to the NBA, he only needed a little bit of adjusting before being considered an elite NBA player.

First guy he beat has an 0-1 career record. And that was after one year of training...

Not even sure what point or link you're trying to draw here.

Someone like Hardy would destroy Conor even without training.

Mcgregor has a very long reach for a guy his size. His wingspan is 1.88m compared to Zion's 2.08m. I expected Zion to have a much better advantage there before looking it up.

In a fight Connor would have enough reach to keep his distance from Zion and to strike him with some devastating hits when the opportunity arises. Zion's height and reach advantage helps him, but Connor's training and left hand can overcome that.

And this is based off him beating some guy with an 0-1 career record to date after he had one year of training? ok....

Zion's leg is bigger than whole Conor, he wouldn't lock anything. Conor is like a mosquito compared to him.

Zion has probably never been punched in the face, and certainly not from an adult, and DEFINITELY not from an MMA knockout artist.

People here also don't know how easy it is to take down guys that have 0 training, because they've never had any experience fighting or doing MMA.

A lot of basketball fans that's only fight experience is watching someone get sucker punched at a bar, or multiple guys jumping in after 5 seconds.

SMH. from reading this thread I get the feeling I might be the only guy to have ever actually witnessed a "back alley brawl".

Its no a ring fight. It's not the movies. There are very few clean anythings. Nobody dances around. Its violence in a small space with charging bodies, people being flung into walls and trash bins etc. This whole discussion is juvenile of course, but in any sort of actual real life "no holds barred" scenario, the bigger man is going to rapidly close on the littler man, walk through a few punches or kicks, grab him and then fling or slam him, very hard, onto a very hard surface or object. Or pile drive him, or whatever. A smart one will put his body weight behind it and bones will break. In "real" fights there aren't a lot of clean strikes, and in real fights involving big guys they aren't looking for their to be. It's like fighting a bear. It's going to put its big ole body on you and the physics are just daunting. Which is why in the real world 150lb guys don't fight 300lb guys 1 on 1. They bring friends. Or guns.

Seriously all this discussion like guys are going to circle each other and jab for 3 minutes is just...completely unrelated to actual real world fighting.
