JCCJr is a whole lot of ehhh... HBO is desperate to find a star and catch up to Showtime. He has always had a big following but it speaks volumes that despite all the success at the gate, no TV was ever remotely interested in putting him on until now.

I know pissing off Arum wasn't exactly what they wanted to do, but I wonder if they at least tried to get Martinez back into the ring earlier.

Roach needs to turn into "Duke" Evers and start building some hurtin' bombs with Chavez Jr. in training.

I'm sorry, but Martinez wrecks Chavez Jr.. He leans forward too much and leaves open to way too many shots.

Manny is a beast.

No one on here better judge Shane for saying that.

You have the best fighter (or Floyd) in the world beating on a past-his-prime warrior and he was worried about not being able to move. Drooling and not being able to patch together a sentence past 50 would worry me too.

I will always be a Mosley fan, I think no less of him for it.

http://www.badlefthook.com/2011/6/7/221 ... mah-nelson

Former two-time super featherweight titlist Genaro "Chicanito" Hernandez passed away today. He was 45 years old.

Mr. Hernandez had battled a rare form of cancer after his 1998 retirement from the ring. The head and neck cancer was reported to be in remission back in 2009, but in 2010 it returned. Last month, he stopped receiving chemotherapy treatments.

Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Times did a feature on Genaro:

"I feel like an old man that somebody needs to take care of," says Hernandez, who will turn 45 in May. "For awhile, I lost 50 pounds. I limp. I've got tumors on both shoulders, one on each thigh, one on my neck and three on my back. I haven't been able to produce any saliva for the last two years.

"I'm hanging in there."

[Photo by Markus Boesch/Getty Images] He battled the cancer as valiantly as he fought in the ring over a career that, as the Times noted, was often overshadowed by East Los Angeles rival Oscar de la Hoya.

Hernandez turned pro in 1984 at the age of 18, and by 1988 was becoming a staple at the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, former home of the Los Angeles Lakers and home to many fighters who would go on to become stars. In 1991, he picked up his first title, beating Daniel Londas for the WBA belt at 130 pounds, which he would successfully defend eight times. After beating Jorge Paez in March 1995 in a non-title bout, Hernandez moved up to lightweight to challenge Oscar de la Hoya himself for the WBO title. Oscar got him out in six rounds.

In 1997, he was back in the big main events, and back at super featherweight. He faced Azumah Nelson for the WBC title in March of that year. After the bell to end the seventh round, Hernandez was knocked out by a late punch from Nelson, but refused to take a disqualification win. Instead, he fought on after recuperating, and defeated Nelson by split decision.

Hernandez would defend that title three times, and then he signed to face young Floyd Mayweather Jr on October 3, 1998. Mayweather dominated the fight and beat Hernandez in eight rounds. It turned out to be the last fight of Genaro's career -- shortly after, while preparing a return, he was diagnosed with a blood clot and torn cartilage muscle. He decided to retire at the age of 32, and he never came back to the sport. His career ended with a record of 38 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw, and 17 wins by knockout.

Bad Left Hook sends our deepest condolences and best wishes to the family and loved ones of Genaro "Chicanito" Hernandez.

Sad Story... I am glad that they didn't show him as a shell of his formerself. I saw him on a broadcast a while back on HBO Latino and he looked half dead. I am sadden to hear that such a good person had to deal with such a terrible situation.

Oh yeah... Mayweather vs Ortiz is on...

Mayweather will pick apart the jabless Ortiz just like he did vs Corrales.

Wow! Just saw that clip on Mosley. I didn't know. That was insane. Talking about broken. I wonder if he knew he was done before the fight began? It's not like this guy needed to be encouraged to fight before.

God I would just love a Mayweather upset. But he's as smart in the ring as he is dumb outside of it. I gotta give Mayweather real credit for something. At his best, he may be one of the top 2-3-4 fighters I've ever seen in my lifetime in terms of his opponents not being able to get a clean shot at him.

This would actually be an interesting topic for discussion. What good to great fighters were the best defensive fighters in this way? Certainly Ali at his best was a master in this way.

Anyway...

You should try to get the whole episode. Fight Camp 360. His corner was super pissed with him the whole fight - they seemed to think he'd only shown up for the pay cheque even. I think it's on YouTube.

Kostya Tszyu had perhaps the most infamous knockout of the decade when he just knocked out Judah downright silly....

He is a very well respected fighter and glad that he got in...

Alvarez made him look like a regional beltholder that he is....

I don't know why Alvarez uses the Winning gloves... I mean there is something inherently wrong with a Mexican using Japanese gloves, instead of the Mexican Reyes gloves.

Martirosyan would get killed.. he almost lost his last fight by the way which was a good scrap. I never really seen what the big deal was with him.

I am actually getting kinda excited by the Wald/Haye fight coming up...

I actually saw the Sturm fight... damn it was a good fight. I mean Sturm is usually boring as **** and faces fighters who shouldn't be fighting him, so it was damn good to see someone on his level. It was a tight fight but I had him winning.

PS... I wish I had his abs...

It doesn't have the same aura of the first fight... Cotto might be 80% of his best and Margarito might be 60% of his best. They are going to fight at 154, which isn't remotely near Cotto's ideal weight. Only reason he went to 154 is because there was a title trinket on the line vs Foreman.

Shame how that fight cause both fighters to go downhill steeply. They aren't world class fighters anymore at their respective weights. If they were to face Martinez... they would get killed.

I hope that Cotto gets some payback but Margarito might very well be a broken fighter and quite frankly I don't think deserves the paydays he has gotten for his cheating.

^^^ I 100% agree with you Blame Rasho. My hope is that Cotto whips MargoCheato's butt and then fights someone more deserving of a big money fight.

There is a Rios/Agullion fight coming up this week.... You have two guys who are going to lay it all out and is a contender for FOTY.... They are also two **** fighting each other... and it isn't that often that you have two guys who are just badasses that are willing to throw down. Going with Rios with a late KO...

Cintron is fighting Molina... eh... It is kinda sad that Cintron is one of the better boxers/fighters at 154.

Williams is also going to fight Lara... I thought Lara would be a much better fight than what he has shown, and Williams has to prove that he isn't broken from that nasty as **** KO by Martinez. Williams isn't a guy who is known for his defense, so maybe there is a chance that Lara times him... but I don't think he has the one punch power to get him out. Interesting fight but Williams I think is a better fighter despite of everything.

The undercard to the Williams fight has Akifumi Shimoda vs. Rico Ramos. It is a sleeper fight... Shimoda is coming over from Japan trying to make a mark for himself and Ramos is a good prospect fighting a legit champ. Also... skinny guys tend to make good fights on TV...

Showtime by far has the better fight this weekend...
