Masvidal says he will fight Nate as his first title defense.

Jesus Christ. Guess I'm rooting for Usman lol.

Gilbert Burns vs Kamaru Usman
Petr Yan vs Jose Aldo
Max Holloway vs Alexander Volkanowski

And then there’s Jessica Andrade vs Namajunas and VanZant vs Ribas.

Personally, I’m disappointed that we’re not getting Masvidal vs Usman. That’s the one I was definitely looking forward to.

And the disappointment has been lifted! Super excited that Masvidal is stepping in for Burns. I wish he had more of a training camp to prepare, but nonetheless, this is the matchup I've been waiting to see all year.

Would you mind updating thread title to help with my OCD? :)

Jose Aldo is fighting Petr Yan for the 135 belt. It's all a mess.

The UFC is getting as bad as PRIDE was back in the day.

He could've easily just said no to the fight then. He signed onto the fight because he got another big payday. He could've easily said no and they would've just gone to Colby or just taken the fight off the card.

Are you talking about Mike Brown? Because to be fair, I feel like the media kind of portrayed that situation as if Brown flew to Abu Dhabi, but he didn't.

What’s that got to do with what I said though? It’s more about him infecting other people not the risk to himself.

If he’s been in close contact to someone with it he could test positive after testing negative. It’s happened with plenty of people. There really should be at least a two week quarantine.

I’m as selfish as anyone and want to see the fight and hope it turns out fine but I think the ufc really don’t give a ****. Really this fight shouldnt be happening.

Agreed. If he’s been anywhere near the infected in the last 14, he shouldn’t fight.
Usman shouldn’t either. Covid can destroy your lungs, that’s career altering, and life altering.

I don't think it is unusual for WW's to cut from 190 on a normal cut?

6 days seems extreme. Not impossible but when he’s making a point to post pics of him stopping to eat pizza I think he was exaggerating To play mind games or whatever who knows.

poirier even come out and said he’s in great shape and been training for usman the whole time.

Cheisa was 188 on fight night at UFC 232 after making 170.5 at wiegh in. You look at the percent gained from weigh in to fight night in California events and a bit over a third of fighters put back on more than 12%. Now that's not the same thing as were you started your water weight cut, but I wouldn't be surprised if a fair number of WWs are cutting from 190. Ronda cut 17 pounds in one day on TUF (down to 135) just because one of her fighters pissed her off by missing weight. It's not healthy but cutting from 190 to 170 is far from pushing the bounds of weight cutting.

I know 55ers who walk around above 190. I would not be the least bit surprised if he got the call at 190. Poirier's claim that he's in shape and been training doesn't contradict that.

No but it contradicts what Jorge said about how he’s been training ( in Ariel interview). So if he’s talking **** about that he could easily be talking **** about his weight too.

Everyone’s different and when he weighed himself to get that 192 reading makes a difference too. Could have been at the end of the day when he’s full or first thing in the morning when he’s a little depleted. That alone is a big fluctuation. Maybe 20 pounds isn’t that much for his body. Or maybe he’s exaggerating.

Doesn’t really matter either way. He made weight, fights got a lot of hype and it’s exciting.

Masvidal, candidly, told a story about having heard Burns fell out where he suggested to his dad that he might jump in. His dad said, "you're not in that kind of shape." There was no gamesmanship in that statement, he wasn't nesting a false fact deep into a story about his emotional reaction to Burns' dropout.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

It's gamemanship.

Overall Usman went from a VERY comfortable fight against his old training partner with a new camp to a brand new fight against a dynamic striker who's fight camp just gameplanned for Usman a few months ago and was thinking about Usman a few weeks ago when they were almost the main event.

-Usman hasn't faced a kickboxer like Jorge ever, his most recent wins were over Colby (basic pressure boxing + wrestling mix and their fight was a kickboxing match), Woodley (explosive counter puncher who has been pretty bleh since winning the belt), RDA (decent standup but nothing overwhelming) and Maia (not a standup fighter). Usman has had a good road for his style in the past few fights.
-Usman needs to gameplan to close the distance IMO. Jorge has great bodykicks and Usman's GNP is NOT dynamic, Usman's mat returns are great but I think Jorge has enough counter wrestling to get away from this and if he does get taken down, he's not going to be overwhelmed there.
-There's a big technical advantage in the standup department for Jorge and literally zero time for Usman to prepare. He literally took the fight and got on the plane. No drilling, no game-planning and no coaching can really be done in that time because they had to focus on weight cutting.

This is pure chaos for Usman. New coach, new opponent, no gameplanning, fighting at 8AM in the **** desert against a guy who's the best striker you've ever faced.

I put money on Jorge winning by KO in either the 3rd, 4th or 5th rounds or a decision. All of them have crazy odds but I could see it happening.
