Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
catching up...Bellator 80...Jeez, a lot of terrible fighters. That guy who fought Volkov is really unskilled. Volkov himself I don't believe is world class at all. And Joe Warren's stand-up is terrible. Meanwhile, the guy he fought might be the only man in MMA a bigger stooge than Joe. Bellator 81 isn't any better so far, up to the Clementi fight.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
great posts above on the issues of Bellator fighter moral character. I also didn't know that about Ford. I remember his background being alluded to in MFC. it genuinely does seem like he has turned things around. and I find him charismatic. but, wow, an armed burglary with brutal torture??? and, yeah, if he has turned it around, then don't brag about being gangster. I only hope they were drug dealers or otherwise criminals themselves. if they were citizens? how is he even on the street? Soviet Canuckistan.

I didn't realize they had signed Saling. How could they have missed the SF controversy? it seems like they're courting this. that can't have been an oversight. the guy is a crazy fighter, throws bombs, maybe they're willing to overlook just anything for the sake of putting on a show. it seems like it.

Bellator signed Saling for a fight before Strikeforce. His past didn't receive public attention until after SF put him on TV. So if SF didn't know about it then Bellator certainly didn't.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Bellator has added a championship fight rematch clause in their title system. It's about time. This will keep their champions a little busier while staying true to the tourney format. The fighter getting a rematch still had to originally win a tournament. It's not like fast tracking Matt Serra, Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, Dan Hardy, Mark Hominick, etc. It was much more unfair for fighters who rose to the top and were there for a while or lost a close fight to subsequently drop to the same rung on the ladder as Rene Nazare or Tim Welch.

Who you guys like between Good and Koreshkov? This week Bellator is producing pretty much a one-fight card, but it's a wicked good fight on paper.

I'm going to go with Good, I think he can hang with anyone. Wouldn't bet the house on it though.
You're right about the rest of the card, some squash matches, but this should be a good one.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Big win for Koreshkov.
I gave Good a slight edge too (heart said Koreshkov by a little, head said Good by a little). He's one of the more underrated guys in MMA because he got robbed by Hawn and took on Askren at a time where the MMA world didn't have nearly the awareness of him as they do now.
But Koreshkov just took him out of his game. He didn't allow himself to get bullied. Stayed aware when he was on the fence most of the time, got the double unders and turned Good when he didn't. Then just picked apart Good from distance with his superior reach, accuracy, feints, and diversity. Even threw in a TD at the end to ice the final round and in turn fight.
I've always been vocally really high on Koreshkov. I just didn't know if he'd be ready mentally for the stage and Good at 22, and it wasn't the best match-up for him. Kind of like how Erick Silva wasn't ready for Fitch, in relative terms. But in this instant Koreshkov managed to prevail again anyways. That's because unlike Silva he respected his opponent and thus fought closer to his ability. If he respected his opponent too much it would have ended up counter-productive, but he kept his admitted nerves under control.
Sky is the limit. He's just got to continue getting stronger with age, and work out some minor issues, like turning his back to get up, high energy and risk strikes, and stamina to only go hard for 2 (less high energy strikes might add a round or two by itself).

Got home, went to watch the stream, and saw the headline with results just below. Crap. Any particular fights worth watching?

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Koreshkov-Good and Rickels-Fischer were both solid fights. You should check those out.
Marshall-Hose was a brief donnybrook. You won't lose out on anything by watching for the 30 seconds it lasted.
I also think you would personally enjoy Arm Collector vs. Seguin as a jits guy who appreciates the nuances. There was a great transition for the finish by Arm Collector. He's 41, looks 51, but fights 31. He has great spring in his step for an old guy. I was on the fence about his future in Bellator, but after that performance, I'd like to see him in the next tourney, and I think him vs. Khalidov (if BFC could snare him finally) would be a really interesting fight ala his matches vs. Santiago (only Santana doesn't have a glass chin).

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
There is a good piece over on mmajunkie.com about this Dan McGuane fellow. Disappointed (but not surprised) to find out that he had indeed disclosed his past convictions to bellator prior to being signed for the fight.
The guy is so delusional its unreal, he claims/thinks it was his opponent who set up the website so he wouldn't have to fight him. Yea man, I'm so sure its your opponent scared of a guy with 3 fights as opposed to friends/family of the kid you murdered a few years ago.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
What are we going to do for Bellator this coming season? Are we still going to have a thread which encapsulates every Bellator event, or one for every individual card from now on? They are going to be on Spike, during the weekday, not tape delayed for our Canadian pals, and Bellator saved up some talent. They will be akin to WEC cards, aside from being more regular, and including a couple throw-ins at the bottom like usual. I don't think most watched and commented on the WEC prelims anyways. Where were they shown?

So apparently the lightweight final didn't happen because the Casino wouldn't let 20-year old Marcin Held into the building.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Entry level event promotion stuff. In the music business, you always clear underage musicians with the venue and check local laws before having someone underage perform. Only thing I can think of that might have happened is the AC wouldn't allow Held to wear something, a stamp, a wristband, that indicated he would be unable to drink. It could be a hard and fast rule that no one underage, even performers, are allowed and there's no negotiation. I'd be curious to find out what happened. But knowing what I know about the business, Bellator screwed up when selecting a venue, that much is sure.

Wow. 2 losses and Bellator cuts one of its long time champs. That's harsh. Oh well. A couple wins and hopefully this guy will get a chance in the UFC. 135 could always use a good fighter.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Yeah, it seems unfair on the surface. He apparently was blind-sided by the decision and previously has talked very favorably publicly about Bellator. Hopefully they thought they were doing him a favor because he really belongs at 125, and there's no BW tourney this upcoming season, but that's probably not the case based on his reaction.
Anyway, some good fights/cards coming up for the beginning of Bellator's run on Spike. There are going to be at least 5 championship fights on the first five cards. Curran/Pitbull and Chandler/Hawn on event #1, Askren/Amoussou #2, Shlemenko/Falcao #4, Dantas/Galvao #5. #4 will feature the LW tournament. It won't necessarily have any juggernauts, but the match-ups are awesome (a couple which I suggested). Lloyd Woodard/David Rickels should be fun before and during the fight. Sarnavskiy/Michel will be super-technical. I know Ronnie will love that one. Patricky/De Lorenzi should be explosive. Then they're holding out on announcing the final one. It's a possibility that relates to the decision on Eddie. Otherwise they have Tirloni, Horcher, and maybe Cosmo Alexandre to choose from. They could also sign someone like Narantungalag who is top 25 worldwide. They'd face Brent Weedman (I think) who is in a lot of entertaining fights. If they re-sign Eddie he should be rematching Chandler or facing Hawn, instead of having to go thru another tourney.

Why no one has signed Narantungalag yet is a mystery to me.
