Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
Woah, Hawn put up no resistance.
I love Petruzelli, watching that fight now. "Hello, Darkness, my old friend..." Simon & Garfunkel walk-in music! This opponent looks solid, though. Oh eff, he screwed up his knee. GAH! Looks like he'd busted the guy's orbital too. It would have been a few minutes til that swole up.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
Bellator oddly enough signed Tyrone Spong. I thought he was a guy WSOF was featuring, but apparently their contracts are made out of tissue paper.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
Surprised considering wsof just announced they inked with nbc sports today I think.
Not sure if he could, but seeing Spong put on a striking clinic vs King Mo at some point would make me happy.

But is he going to be able to stay off of his back long enough to do that?

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
The rumor is Sarnavskiy may have to bow out of the LW tourney due to a hand injury.
That's a bummer if true. I'd like to see Horcher or Zavurov get his spot. Hawn or Pitbull are other palatable options.
Also, there's a rumor going around that Barnett to Bellator is imminent.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
Dantas is still legit, top 5-10 guy. Actually on ability I think he beats everybody in the world but Barao and a healthy Cruz most times. He just got stupid against Nam because he had zero respect for his skills. That was an even bigger fluke than Serra-GSP. Nam has zero other wins of note and at least Serra had to earn his knockout against GSP. Dantas just got reckless with a bunch of flying knees in a row.
Great heart by B-Rog in his fight, but he succumbed again in part due to some questionable fight I.Q., cardio, and unrefined technique. I'll always be a fan. He hasn't been in a bad or even average fight yet. But with him out, and some of the others, this tournament turned into even more of a mess. Shame for not putting Vasilevsky in from the beginning, even Santana, and should have went hard after Khalidov. I think Aliev should be the favorite now. He looked solid.

Jorge Gurgel needs to step it up, Doug Marshall's making a run for biggest douche in MMA.
Having that soul patch-strip pretty much guarantees it.
Terrible stoppage, obv. The guy popped right back up.

Just watched Kramer vs you know that guy from Bellator 89. Great fight! Wow. You could see whatshisface just heaving at the start of the third. But he nut-up and kept blasting. No backdown in either guy. One fo the best I've ever seen in Bellator.
This Rickles guy demeans the organization, makes them look bad.

That's it for Sandro, no more. I don't want to see this c-level journeyman in the tournaments anymore.
Bellator's 170 division is excellent but 185 and up are really bad. Doug Marshall vs this other guy, please.

Re: Bellator General Discussion and Info
Brett Cooper is pretty good when healthy (he's got a nagging knee problem hurting his mobility right now), and he should be facing Sultan Aliev in the finale not Marshall. Bellator also left some good MW's out of the tourney like Vasilevsky (who would have been a sizable favorite, and beat Falcao in the last one in reality), Giva, etc. 13-0 Bruno Santos had to bow out due to injuries. Outside of that a lot of prospects who looked promising haven't panned out. It's a mediocre division, but still Bellator hasn't put their best foot forward w/ the selections they did make for it. For some reason they're really pushing Marshall. I gotta think that's a little bit of the Spike influence, because that's not Bellator's old M.O.

Crazy card. Lots of first round finishes. Mike Mucitelli (handed out one of the most savage ass kickings I've ever seen... if the fight lasted the round it would have been a 10-5) and Michael Page are LEGIT prospects.

I really liked what I saw of Mucitelli last time out. I was sad to see that for some reason his fight did not make the TV card, which ended up being like 8 fights because of the quick finishes.
Is it just me or does it seem like Bellator is the home of nasty groin shots? There seems to be an abundance of fight stopping and near fight stopping groin shots in Bellator compared to other organizations.

Spike probably would have thrown a fit at the amount of blood (seriously). Watch the fight if you can find it. It's horrific.

It's hard to know what to make out of Mucitelli. He's still very early in his career, has faced lackluster comp, and we've seen very little striking or wrestling from him. His success has been highly ground based. Who knows if we can implement that against a higher level of comp.
I think the more notable prospect from the higher weight classes we saw last night was Butcher. His fights/wins have been heavily ground based, but we have seen glimpses of good striking in his career, and his competition has been deceptively strong for 6-0. Everybody he's beaten has a winning record and Bastress + Hermansson were solid prospects in their own rights. He got an early straight KO of Dominique Steele who Brian Rogers threw everything but the kitchen sink at and couldn't put away. Also, you gotta love the guy's brashness.
Same thing goes for Page. He's in a similar position as Mucitelli with the weak competition, including that quitter he faced last night, but his striking is elite, his ability to be evasive doesn't make him easy to takedown, and he has subbed an opponent quickly when he actually was taken to the ground. He's showing a lot of promise. I have the suspicion he'll be a contender, but there's not much proof with him yet. I would love to see him next week against Davis. Neither took a scratch and God knows that card needs it too.
Speaking of the quality of last night's card, it was week. There were a lot of mismatches and Bellator did a poor job of putting together relevant fights and enough to avoid long lulls in between. A few fights were reasonable, but the reason for so many finishes were the mismatches. The FOTN was the one which didn't end up in a finish. Great exchanges on the feet and ground by Held and Jansen in the first two rounds. Jansen has either beat or made it tough on everyone in his career, so his fight with Chandler should be interesting to that extent, but I think with the improvement Held showed on the feet and in wrestling, he'd have been more intriguing. He lost primarily because of cardio. At 21 he's still got a lot of time to improve in that area and a lot others. Like I said he's already taken a huge leap.
