Yup, it's safe to say that HBO has a legit future PPV stud on their hands.

I dunno about PPV stud....

The guy was unheard of a little over a year ago. Yet he's doing numbers slightly under guys Cotto and Chavez JR. He has a style that simply draws people and creates buzz. It's the same way Tyson drew people in. What's most impressive is that he's a non-American that doesn't have the advantage of an ethnic following the way guys like Cotto, Chavez Jr, Pacquiao and Canelo do. Yet he's doing 1.5 million. Those are just impressive period.

I bet you a fight with Martinez would do at least 1 million. Same goes for a fight with Ward. If HBO continues to push him right, he can easily be a PPV stud.

I can't see a fight with Martinez doing 1M, much less 750k. PPV is just a different ballgame, so to speak. I agree that Golovkin's style is drawing people into HBO, people love seeing knockouts and Golovkin delivers them at an excellent rate. I'll be interested to see how his next fight does on HBO then maybe this subject gets revisited. It is impressive to see him go from one of the least watched HBO fights in years against Proksa in September 2012 to what he drew against Stevens last Saturday.

Martinez vs Chavez did less than 500K in PPV... on a Mexican Holiday.... perspective is needed.

How this for perspective? He's getting Americans to watch him. When Cotto, Pacquiao or big name Mexican fighters fight, they have a built in following in place. Puerto Ricans, Filipinos, Mexicans. GGG doesn't have that kind of advantage, yet he's still drawing. A largely American audience at that. He's been fighting on HBO for just a little over a year. if you can get American's to start watching your fights, that's legit buzz. It's one of the reasons why Pacquiao was able to be a crossover PPV star. He not only was able to draw Filipinos, but Americans as well.

I remember when I brought this up after he fought Macklin. I had people in here disagreeing on me when I predicted his next fight would probably do at least 1.3 to 1.4 million. Well guess what? He peaked at 1.5 and it's only going to get higher next year, especially when he's schedule to fight at least 4 times(baring injury). His next fight will probably do at least 1.6 regardless of his opponent. That's how popular he's becoming. I'm not trying to be nut huger here. This is just what I see happening based off his numbers quickly trending upward. And he's doing it rather quickly.

Anyway, this is just my opinion of course. I could be wrong. But everything about this kid tells me he's the next big thing in the sport as far as being a legit PPV draw is concerned. Okay maybe not 1 million against Martinez. But I can see sales peaking at 800,000 in 2015. If they happen to fight that is.

I read somewhere that he's in stable condition now in ICU.

Oh and Golden Boy offered Cotto 10 mil to fight Canelo next year. Arum must be livid right now.

Cotto is still, technically, self-promoted, so he can go whatever route he chooses. This is certainly going to be difficult to decline for Cotto even though he has stated that he'd like to work with Arum. 10M plus PPV upside and we all know Cotto is still a draw in the sport. A Cotto/Alvarez fight is pretty much a lock to generate really good business.

Garcia/Martinez and Donaire/Darchinyan II tonight.

Darchinyan talking all kinds of sh*t. Seems like someone forgot that his ass got KTFO last time they met. He's the perfect opponent to make Donaire look good again.

Darchinyan always talks ****, it would've been a surprise if he didn't.

I expect Donaire to stop him again. Garcia should be able to handle Rocky Martinez. Andrade/Martirosyan...eh.

Oh I know. It's just stupid considering how Donaire KO'ed him the last time they fought. And that was when he was actually in his prime.

Darchinyan looks better than I expected. Donaire's confidence looks shot. Rigo may have taken his soul in that last fight.

I got it 3-2 Darchinyan so far. Donaire looks shook in there. Maybe Darchinyan was right.

I don't like the way Donaire looks in this fight. He looks timid, not active enough, and the footwork isn't the same. Looks like a guy that doesn't want to be in there.

That's the Donaire that most boxing fans remember. He just needed his confidence back once he landed that big bomb.

Damn, those last couple of uppercuts were nasty.

That being said Donaire has lost a step. His confidence was shaky from the get go. Rigo beats him rather easily again if this is where he's at as a boxer.
