WEC 51: Aldo v. Gamburyan

Post#1 » by SDM » Thu Aug 19, 2010 1:16 pm

Thursday, September 30th at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.

All that's missing is Faber and this would be a PPV. I can't believe we're getting this for free.

Aldo/Gamburyan (for title)
Torres/Valencia
Varner/Cerrone II
KZ/Roop
Garcia/Hominick

And Horodecki and Brown in the prelims.

It's free? WOW this the best free card ever. The Aldo and Torres fights are pretty one sided, but Varner/Cerrone, KZ/Roop, Garcia/Hominick are going to be WAAAAAY crazy.

I think Cerrone might actually try to kill Varner, though I'll take Varner in this fight.

I was training with Varner the other day and I brought up Cowboy, trust me the feeling is mutual. I expect this to be one of the most intense fights of either of their careers.

Lol, sure . I know he is your boy and all, I used to like him, I was like :o he just took Razor Robs belt. But since that first fight with Cerrone, Varner has become a punk .

I'm having a hard time picturing any way that gamburyan can win. Also, depending on the odds, I think I might make a bet on Valencia. I think Torres' time may be up as an elite Bantamweight. I hope he proves me wrong though.

This is a nice card. Varner vs. Cerrone is long overdue and means finally we won't have to see one of the two losing to Bendo for a change.

WEC was at the gym filming Varner yesterday, I guess we get a pre-fight lil special for this card. It always makes the fights better when you catch the hype and watch them train. Did anyone catch when Pulver was doing pull-ups with tennis balls in his hands that was sick. I hope they show Aldo train, he is soooo explosive I'd like to see what he does to enhance it.

Aldo is probably a savant who hammers away at strung-up carcasses until he gets tired, eats a Big Mac, and goes to bed.

This is actually the first time I am genuinly looking forward to a WEC card as I feel suitably informed about the majority of the card, and it does look amazingly stacked.

I really dislike Manny, so really hoping for another Aldo breakout beasting on him.

I'd like to see Torres get back on track, just for the sake of the division, the more top end fighters we have the better.

Varner Cerrone should be a fantastic fight.

Cerrone's in a bit of hot water over some stupid comments. Wonder if he'll get dinged with a first degree murder charge if he actually kills Varner.

This is going to be an outstanding fight.

I really dislike Cerrone and Varner and really like Henderson. I wish that the WEC's lightweight division wasn't their "let's promote like pro wrasslin" division." I'd love to see Henderson uh, fight someone that isn't Cerrone or Varner. Though I'd hate to see him lose in theory. I hate to see a lot of fighters lose in theory, until they lose. The concept of the WEC's lightweight division is so weird, yet I still somehow enjoy it. I want to see Sharalous punch people sloppily and hard. They have a very charismatic but narrow LW division that people eat up.

PRELIMINARY CARD

Jason Reinhardt vs. Tiequan Zhang
Nick Pace vs. Demetrious Johnson
Antonio Banuelos vs. Chad George
Tyler Toner vs. Diego Nunes
Chris Horodecki vs. Ed Ratcliff
Mike Brown vs. Cole Province

MAIN CARD

Leonard Garcia vs. Mark Hominick
Chan Sung Jung "The Korean Zombie" vs. George Roop
Miguel Torres vs. Charlie Valencia
Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone vs. Jaime Varner
Manny Gamburyan vs. Jose Aldo (WEC Featherweight Champion)

Hot stuff! Mike Brown on the prelims - that's a stacked card!

Hominick KOs Garcia in 1, gets a title shot, is my hope. He and Aldo would be an amazing match.

I don't see how Gamburyan has any shot. Putting a stocky, immobile dude in against Aldo?

That's funny because when I read "classless tool" Varner is the very first fighter to come to mind. But I'm not exactly a Cowboy fan so I don't really care who wins.
