No freaking way. How does a TUF champ get a hook this quick? Mac Danzig has been 20 times worse than Efrain and he still gets put on TV.
Cut Danzig, re-sign Efrain.

I'm pretty surprised by this.
Guess it just doesn't bode well for guys who miss weight and then get submitted.

That's pretty shocking. I was real excited for Escudero's future. He has a ton of skills and a good head on his shoulders. He had a bad week but he'll be back for sure.

I guess he's already talking to both strikeforce and bellator.
Would be a solid signing for either promotion IMO.
Strikeforce needs depth at LW and he could always enter a tourney in bellator.

There's got to be something behind the scenes, including the missed weight. 2-2 with each of his losses being well-fought...that's not worthy of being dropped. Dunham and Oliveira are the future of the division. He had strong moments with both - almost finished Dunham, IIRC.
The guy's hispanic too, perfect for Bellator.

I'm looking at it from a business perspective.
A. I'm guessing he is not much of a draw
B. 2-2 after all the hype kind of puts egg on their face.
C. He's not worth the contract he was given due to winning TUF. Cut him, have him win a few fights and sign him again for less money.

Too tough of a division to keep around a future gatekeeper who cant make weight, his future looks much brighter with Bellator, he's alot more marketable there.

I could not have told you he was .500. All I remember are some really hard fought fights. No less of a draw than any other recent TUF winner.
The TUF contract is mediocre. In fact, it's pretty exploitative, IIRC.
Giving him another fight would not have been a big deal.
I think there's something else. Huerta vs Escudero vs Alvarez would be pretty big, and could mean none of them having to return to the UFC. All Mexican, all LWs who can bang. Bellator could carve out a demographic.

It's reported that Efrain also wanted the release. It was "amicable". My guess is the competition is a lot tougher than he expected, and needs some time somewhere else before he is ready for the UFC.

Re: Efrain Escuedero cut from UFC . . .
Interesting, well he beat Amir to being the first winner to get cut (Amir being 1 of my favourite of recent seasons, so glad he won't suffer that indignity if he loses his next match).
I do agree there is something more than a cut and dry "he lost off he goes" cut. Curious that our saying spree, that he wanted to be cut, feels like he's not moving any where in the UFC? I wonder how much of it is a ego thing or wanting to imrpove if thats the case. I know some people can't hack not being able to compete and would rather step down and be the big fish in a little pond.
Have to say though, was never a fan and felt he was a little "over rated" by some (no one here though) about this "tons of talent" he had, just looked like an average fighter to me, which unfortunatly, is something the UFC LW division doesnt really need, there are bags of LW in the UFC that should (on paper) beat him, and thats never a good thing.

I remember reading that Bellator's intention WAS to aim for the Mexican demographic. Believe they were shown on ESPN Desportes at some time? They'll probably aim to get him. Never was a big fan of Escudero and don't really care that he got cut. He looked so goddamn awful against Oliveira.

Danzig is in a lot worse shape than Amir. Amir was a raw guy with upside and a big fan favorite. Because of that, he will get plenty of chances to succeed. Danzig though is one fight from the door.

I was watching the Cain fight with Santino Defranca, Efrain's trainer. Escudero signed a contract with Bellator to fight and ESPN Espanol for commentary, he got a $100,000 signing bonus and a sponsorship with Bud-light for some spanish commercials. Getting cut by Zuffa got him paid!

Danzig needs to get cut. He peaked BEFORE he was on the UFC roster.
