Out 6-8 months. I guess JDS doesn't want to wait for him to get back. Any thoughts on what should happen in the meantime?

JDS should fight someone he can beat and bide his time for a title shot. Struve or Rothwell maybe.

ifr Mir isn't doing TUF then have JDS fight him.

JDS already beat Struve in under 60 seconds. I think a fight with Rothwell or Kongo makes since while waiting for Cain.

Interim title, JDS vs. (pick a HW that has won at least two fights in a row).
Though interim titles are stupid, any non-title fight is a step down for JDS.

Only ones I think of that fit in that category are Struve and Schaub. Nelson, Lesnar, and Barry are coming off losses.

Perfect time to bring in someone with name value, like Monson, Rizzo, Ricco Rodriguez, or Sylvia for JDS to crush.

What about Herring ? Just googled him, he is still under UFC contract and plans to return to the Octagon in 2011.
From his wikipedia,
Herring was scheduled to fight Cain Velasquez at UFC 99, but was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed illness.
Herring stated in November 2010 that he wants to fight as soon as possible. He is still under contract with the UFC and is expected to make his return soon.

That sucks.
Coming off the biggest fight of his career, would have been nice for Cain to be able to strike while the iron was hot.
As for JDS, he should definitely fight somebody, just to stay in fight shape. He's already been on the shelf for long enough waiting for Cain. Another 6-8 months would put him in 1 year without fighting territory, where ring rust starts to become an issue.
Put him in a fight with a tough guy that has no real chance of beating him. Rothwell or Herring sound perfect.

Too little time for an interim IMO. Champions seems to generally take this much time off.
Look at Shogun, it will have been 9-10 months for him before he fights again. How long did GSP take off for TUF? 8-9 months? It will have been like 5-6 months for Anderson, etc.

Dana has said repeatedly that they only do interim titles when the champs return is in doubt. That is not the case here.

Makes sense. Hopefully JDS is doing some high-level workouts to compensate for the time off.

According to Soares, JDS isn't going to wait.
