The Underation of Jon Jones

Hey am i the only one that feel that jon jones doesnt get the respect he deserves. First the Ufc puts him on the ufc 126 card against bader and he isnt the headline. Than i hear that even if and when he does win he still wont be close to getting a title shot because the ufc wants the winner of rampage vs silva to get the next shot at the title. I mean this guy dominates every fight hes in. He tossed matt hammil arond like a rag doll and is the reason why brandon vera will propably never be "the truth" ever again. He is technichaly sound standing up, his takedowns are effortless and his gnp is arguably the most dangerous that ive ever seen with those sharp elbows. I just dont see why dana isnt pushing this guy more as the future of this sport.

I think the UFC is bringing him along nicely. He will destroy Bader, after that two more wins and he'll be right there for a title shot. I believe he gets a title shot late 2011- early 2012 .

BTW ive also heard that if Shad beats shogun than Jones wont even want to fight for the title because they are such good friends which sux becuz i think that jones is the way better fighter of the 2.

I've been a Jones fan for a good while, but one word I'd not put in a sentense with "Jon Jones" is underrated.

The kid has the most ammount of hype around him right now. UFC if anything are protecting him due to his age, plus milking the "up and comer" status for all its worth.

Yeah I really don't know anyone that doesn't like Jones, but who has he beat thus far? He is coming alone quite nicely and they are bringing him along, albeit slow for the fans. At the end of this year he will be 24 and is one of the most exciting fighters every time he steps into the cage. It's safe to say that he will get his chance sooner rather than later.

The UFC has done right by Jones. They know full well he is the future of the sport and are bringing him along perfectly.

Jones certainly is not underrated. If anything, he may be overrated. Not because he is not a total stud, but because he just has not yet proved it against elite competition.

Wouldnt you say that now is the time for him to start fighting the elite fighters and not guys like vera and bader

How is Bader not an elite fighter? He is a huge step up in competition for Jones. The winner may be in line for a title shot. If Jones beats Bader, he either gets a title shot or one more fight against maybe the Griffin/Franklin winner.

Fear not, he is no longer being held back.

Bader has not proven himself elite, that's crazy. Eric Shafer, Keith Jardine and a tight win against a badly spiraling Lil Nog? That does not make you elite. Jesus.

Elite may have been the wrong word. But, there are not many bigger fights at 205 right now than Bader. Bader is a clear step up in competition for Jones. Only Shogun, Rashad, Rampage, Machida, Franklin, and Forrest are rated ahead of Bader.

Also, Lil Nog had won 7 fights in a row before losing to Bader. Not sure how that could be considered spiraling.

Another wrestler, Brilz, had beaten him pretty soundly. Pretty well-established as a gift decision.

Ehhh, you're reaching. That was a close good fight against a good fighter in Brilz. Most UFC fighters fight close fights every once in a while. If a close win followed by a loss counts as spiraling, then most everyone in the UFC either is, or has been spiraling.

I'm by no means in love with Bader, but he has earned his spot.

I am in love with Bader. But he hasn't earned his spot. He's beaten next to no one impressive. He was one of 7 different people to beat Keith Jardine in a 2 year period. He beat Eric Shaefer. And he beat Lil Nog.

To be fair, neither Bader nor Jon Jones has truly impressive guys on their wins lists.

Bader: Maghalaes, Marrero, Schafer, Jardine, Nogueira
Jones: Gusmao, Bonnar, O'Brien, Vera, Matyushenko

Not exactly a who's who list of light heavyweights. Jon Jones is definitely not underrated. If anything, I'd say he's overrated. People are giving him the belt before he's fought ANY top tier fighters. Jones is an extremely talented young fighter but wins over C level fighters doesn't get you a title shot unless you're Randy Couture. The winner of the Jones-Bader fight definitely gets closer to a title shot but I think it will take 2 wins after the Bader/Jones fight for one of them to get a shot at the belt.

This.

If anything, Bader's resume is more impressive.

This fight will show us which one of these guys is ready to take the next step, and which one needs to keep beating up on cans for a while longer.

I think the winner could get a title shot with a win over any of the other top contenders (Evans, Machida, Rampage, T. Silva, Griffin, Franklin) though. They could stretch it to 2 more fights if there's another compelling challenger ready to go.

PS...underation?

If he can handle Bader with ease then the only question for me is how he would do against Shogun, Machida, and Rashad. He can skip Rampage, Forrest, Silva, Franklin, Nog, and anyone else as far as I'm concerned. I would like to see some of those fights, though.

I think they are trying to build more Hype around Jones and Bring him up slowly....The guy has the most talent in the UFC.

I'm sure the UFC hopes he acquires all the knowledge to go with the Talent and becomes a Uber Force so they can Hype him as the Best ever.

with that said.......I think he Merks Bader!....Jones has said he likes to prove his ability against Great wrestlers with a pedigree.(I guess his parents didn't allow him to do any wrestling tournaments as a kid.....so he has a chip on shoulder against guy's who were great wrestlers)

Bader is in for a big wake up call.
