http://fightmetric.com/ufcrecords.htmlLots of very interesting things going on here. I like that Jon Fitch has the 2nd most strikes landed, but he's not even in the top 10 in significant strikes. heh. And Crocop has the best TDD in UFC history! Of course you have to take into account his opponents on that one.
Also of note is that GSP has landed not only the most overall strikes, but the most significant strikes as well, and is tied for 7th in knockdowns. He has more UFC fights then many, but these stats are telling. Perhaps they will lay to rest the silly meme that he is overly conservative. Somehow, i doubt it...
Anyway, Geroges is on almost every list, which i think is pretty crazy. GOAT?

A little surprising:
-Machida 10th for Strikes Absorbed per Min. (thought he'd be higher)
-Machida not on the list for Significant Strike Defense (thought he'd at least be on the list)
-Vitor not on the list for Strikes Landed per Min (Maybe I'm just thinking of his highlights and I have to watch some of his fights again but I always pegged him as a guy with a high work rate)
-Karo Parisyan 2nd in takedowns landed (Judo ftw)
-Melvin Guillard tied for 4rth for knockdowns landed
lol:
-Kongo with a higher takedown accuracy than Cain

Some of these are interesting, some are useless.
What's the point of that significant strikes landed stat, that they have front and centre?
Should be SSL per minute, or at least per fight.
GSP tops the list at 892. But that's across 17 fights, giving him an average of 52.4 per fight. However, so many of his fights are 5 rounds, skewing his numbers up even further.
I'm not trying to say anything about GSP one way or the other, just that the list almost boils down to a list of who has had the most UFC fights.

None of these records can be used to make a valid statistical comparison between two fighters, so all of them are useless in that sense, not just some of them. Too many variables (like some of the ones you mentioned). The fact GSP has landed the most significant strikes over the course of his UFC career means nothing, and does nothing to assess his level of striking. SSL/min would be useless as well.
Stats + MMA just don't mix, some of them are neat though in a trivial sense

I wholeheartly agree. Ring Generalship is far more important than how many arm jabs you somehow managed to land.

The only statistical measure in MMA that I think is worthy is quality of opponent. But no one's tracking that (or at least tracking it properly).

Nah... well it is a good guide but it isn't as user friendly and eye friendly.
I am serious someone needs to make a website for such a thing for MMA fighters They would make a killing.
Compare the two..
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxerhttp://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Nick-Diaz-2831Which one do you like more?
I dunno... maybe I am making something out of nothing.
I like the color to indicate recent opponet win loss record, hyperlink to recap of fight and weight of fighters.

There's definitely money to be made, in some sort of mma-reference.com type deal. I've been doing something similar with real estate for the last three years (but actually getting paid by my employer to do it). I'd totally do something like this, but math isn't my strong suit. I was working on a formula awhile ago:
Wins (broken down into certain leverage situations/how the fight is won) + # of opponents with winning percentage over X, divided by:
Loses (broken down the same way/how the fight is lost) + # of opponents with winning percentage over X
The problem was that to measure the high leverage situations/end of fight, I pulled numbers out of my ass. Also, records mean jack. Last time I ran the numbers in early 2009, Machida, GSP, Rutten, Fedor, and Hughes were the top five ever. Most of the exclusively PRIDE guys were in the 20-25 range, likely because of can crushing. Saku was #23 if I recall correctly.
