Maiquel Falcao was due to take on Alessio Sakara, but pulled out of the bout due to a currently unknown injury. Rafael Natal was to step in as his replacement, however on February 12, it was announced that Natal had pulled out of the bout due to a knee injury. Natal was replaced by promotional newcomer Chris Weidman.
Rousimar Palhares was set to face Alexandre Ferreira, however on January 18, Ferreira was dismissed from Chute Boxe, his home training camp, for a "lack of commitment." Less than an hour later, it was then reported that the fight had been cancelled due to Ferreira losing family and friends in the Brazilian floods, resulting in him being in "no condition to train or fight." Palhares is now expected to face Dave Branch.
A bout between Johny Hendricks and Paulo Thiago was expected for the event.However, the bout was canceled after Thiago was forced out with an elbow injury.
Takeya Mizugaki was scheduled to take on Francisco Rivera, but on February 12, Rivera had to pull out due to an undisclosed training injury.Mizugaki is now scheduled to take on UFC newcomer Reuben Duran.

Jeez. ^ That's stressing to read.
Branch is that Renzo black-belt. An interesting fight, him and Palhares. With Palhares' strength advantage, I still wonder if Branch wants to be anywhere near him on the ground.

i'm very excited for this main event. Diego looked amazing in the last two rounds versus Thiago. And Kampmann is a legit top ten welterweight.

Anyone else catch Diego being referred to as Diego "The Dream" Sanchez on the UFC 127 broadcast?

I know, big faux pas by the announcers. They meant dreamy.
Last night's event turned out to be adequate I suppose, in terms of intrigue, but I'm much more looking forward to this one even though it's on free TV.
Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch? Tough decision in terms of entertainment value.
And the bout has equal title implications because none are likely overcoming GSP.
Then you have all the UFC-WEC inter-organizational fights, i.e.: Roller, Castillo, Munoz, and Cantwell. This will be a good gauge to see where fighters who transferred in the merger, stand. They've gotten a lot of unjust, blanket skepticism to this point. The WEC actually has been pretty impressive since Sonnen gave Silva the fight of his life. Condit, Stann, Sonnen, Pierce, and Hendricks; among others have been relatively impressive. Cerrone got the 155'ers off to a solid start.

I feel like I have a pretty good read on several of the fights from this card...
Sanchez v. Kampann - If Kampmann couldn't stop a shot nor secure a sub against a dead tired Shields, then I don't know how he's going to do either against the relentless Sanchez.
Munoz v. Dollaway - wrestling is a wash so it comes down to striking, where Munoz should have the edge with the overall repertoire and strength. Dollaway's a bit of a robot.
Daddy v. Castillo - Once again wrestling cancels itself out, so it should primarily be a stand-up fight, where I like anybody v. Daddy. Castillo has better reach, hands, and setups.
Roller v. Tavares - Roller is one of 155's top wrestlers, and he sets up takedowns well, so he should be able to get them nearly at will. But once on top he's rather lackadaisical and that should cost him considering Tavares' BJJ. Roller might actually have the better striking at this point, but I don't expect he has the sense to keep there regardless. Hope I'm wrong.
Cantwell v. Diabate - I think people could read too much into the disproportionate outcome against their common opponent, Luis Banha Cane. That was the first significant fight for Cantwell in the UFC and he was still rather young. Also, he got alpha maled, just like in his other two losses against Stann. Diabate won't do that to him. Cantwell should be able to be the aggressor and get in and out kickboxing like he prefers against the much older, lanky Diabate. Plus, Diabate has been subbed several times, and Cantwell has infamously pretty good sub offense, so that's another way for him to win.
Also, add Weidman and Bowles to my picks.

Has anybody heard if the prelims are to be aired on Facebook, or they'll replace the pre-fight coverage on Versus (which I don't get the point of while fights are occurring)?

I checked Wiki and both the Daddy/Castillo and Cantwell/Diabate are confirmed. That's 2 of the 3 that I really cared about.
Unfortunately won't be able to catch Roller again. He's getting jobbed out of sponsorship money and attention, recently. His fight against Varner in the WEC finale was also non broadcast. That was of more interest than one or two main card fights. Same thing here. Sakara should have been dropped from the main card after Falcao withdrew.

I kind of feel like the WEC guys are sort of automatically thrown on the prelims.
Kind of pisses me off, and I had these concerns from the beginning.

I thought you were concerned about the lighter weighted fighters being disrespected. Bowles-Page is the lightest weight match-up of the night and they were awarded a main card spot. I could have lived without seeing that fight to tell you the truth, and I'm a WEC follower as you know. They got an immense amount of respect being selected over some of the preliminary card fights.
There are 2 fights involving former WEC members on the main card. The others were: the main event that everyone is looking forward to, and what was originally a pretty attractive match-up between Sakara and Falcao. The UFC either believes a lot in Weidman, or they made an error in not making an adjustment. We'll see tomorrow night.

I think Weidman takes Sakara out. I'm not sure I buy into the late replacement theory, that such a fighter is automatically unprepared. In this case, what does it make Sakara? Weidman knows what's at stake in his debut and Sakara has had to train for three different opponents now.
