Mayhem and Spitsbing to coach TUF 14

Post#1 » by j-ragg » Fri May 27, 2011 7:14 pm

Today, UFC President Dana White revealed exclusively to the Underground that middleweight's Michael Bisping and Jason 'Mayhem' Miller will coach the fourteenth installment of the Ultimate Fighter reality show.

Speculation has been spread throughout the MMA world on who would fill the roles, from Chael Sonnen, to Michael Bisping, Georges St. Pierre, Nick Diaz, and more. The position was confirmed to have been gone to Chael Sonnen, but his recent troubles with the California State Athletic Commission seem to have made that impossible.

The 14th season of the Ultimate Fighter is expected to include featherweights and bantamweight, a first for the reality show, and will start filming soon.

The UFC President also confirmed that the two will square off in the cage at a yet to be determined date and event.

Found this on another message board and this is the headline on their site, but not sure if Dana has come out and said this yet. I'll try and find a better source.

Pretty decent.

Better than a boring (personality) Brazilian and a country boy who'd rather be at his hunt camp.

Miller's facial expressions will be hilarious.

If they thought this seasons ratings were bad, wait until next season. Bisping and Mayhem have no real significant fan base in the US. The hardcore fans will watch because they hate Bisping and know Mayhem is a nut, but the casual fans will be no shows.

At least it won't be as boring as this season.

Depends on how strong they market it.

You can get some pretty good sound bites from those two, and if those bites get some major play, people might tune in.

This is awesome, and wasn't Bully Beatdown a popular show? Maybe some casual fans will tune in because of that. I only watched the first two episodes of this season but I'll give TUF another shot after reading about this.

No.

"Fan base"...what are you talking about?? This isn't traditional sports, where there are home teams. People are fans of personalities...both of which these two have in spades.

Agreed with cbr.

Mayhem is known. Before I want into mma, Mayhem was one of like 3 fighters I actually knew of.

Good choices.

My only gripe is that they should do full FW and BW seasons, not combine them. They can get a ton of mileage out of those two weight classes if they do it right.

^this is a cool blog showcasing mayhem's training. what a nice little roster there. munoz, wanderlei, shogun. that must be intense. it looks like he got his butt whooped. there's also a new clip of him in dana white's new video blog.

This is wishful thinking. The bigger the names involved, the more people watch. That is how MMA works and how it always has. No different from a pay per view. Personality can eventually turn guys into bankable names, but neither of these two guys are there yet.

You are kidding yourself if you don't think the top guys have large fanbases that push ratings. GSP, Rampage, Chuck...these guys have been part of the top 3 rated seasons of TUF. Not coincidently, these are maybe the 3 fighters with the largest fanbases in the UFC over the past handful of years.

I actually like the coaching choices here, but they are not likely to help already sagging ratings. They will seriously need to advertise the crap out of this season. Or find a Kimbo type fighter to help bring in viewers. Though I am not sure a guy like that exists.

This will have big ratings, once people see these dudes talking so much **** in commercials they will tune in. I know I won't miss a minute of it.

Honestly, I hope I am wrong and you are right. The problem is that people like you and I who are excited about this are hardcore fans and were going to watch regardless.

IDK man, I'm a pretty hardcore fan and I hardly watched this last season. I bet this draws viewers.

How did this season do? I didn't watch, but idk how it did ratings wise.

Brock is the UFCs biggest draw.

Worst ratings in show history by a decent margin. Brock proved to be pretty boring. JDS is both boring and can't speak English, and the fighters all sucked.

Soooo it has to be interesting and not just have big names then?

Because I think I remember the first episode bombing despite Brock and nobody knowing that JDS was boring or the fighters sucked.

Bisping/Mayhem will make it interesting.

I think season 14 will be one of the best seasons since Hendo/Bisping, which IMO was the last good season excluding the fights.

I cant speak for everyone else but this will be one of the rare TUF seasons I watch... 100% due to the coach choices. The fights in TUF are always sub par and nowhere near professional MMA levels so the only way I can get entertainment out of TUF is shenanigans, piss in drinks and trash talking.

mayhem ftw!
